What is SFK FTP?
The Something For Kate FTP is somewhere were we can all trade/upload/download files about the band. These files include bootlegs for gigs, recordings from radio interviews as well as video files. Anything to do with the band is on the SFK FTP.
What is allowed on the server?
Most things about the band are allowed, however unreleased songs from any upcoming albums are to be kept off the server. Cover songs that have been bootleg from any gigs are allowed. Please try to keep file sizes to a reasonable level. Songs should be encoded to mp3 with 192kb. Movies to divx. This helps keep transfer rates down and allows us to have more files on the server.
Who can access the server?
Everyone has access to the server, as long as they have the right software. There are a lot of free FTP programs on the net (listed below), as well as some OS have inbuilt FTP Program (ie: Windows' Internet Explorer).
I'm on a Mac - can i use SFK FTP?
Yes you can, some FTP Programs for the mac. http://www.pure-mac.com/ftp.html Includes a list of different Freeware and Software you can use on a mac. If anyone has any recommendations what FTP program to use on a mac - please post below
What are some free FTP Programs for Windows
I would highly recommend Leech FTP

This free FTP program is simple to use, as well as have a nifty addon that allows you to keep a stable connection to the server. For example, I used to download large files up to the server half way through, get disconnected by peers. Leech FTP allows you to finish transferring all your files safely without having to worry about corrupted transfer.

How do I use the FTP?
Each FTP program interface is different, however they all allow you to do the same thing - connect to a server - browse - upload files - download files.
Usually, when first installing an FTP Program, it will come up with a box to enter a server name - user name and password. (refer to below for server details)
Once connected, you will see a list of different directories, you can move freely and browse the different files that you can download.
Treat the FTP Program like Windows Explorer, where you can change different directories, drop and drag files etc... To get a file, you can simply right hand click and select a download / get file option, or you can drag the file to your desktop or Windows Explorer. And to upload a file, you can simply drag the file into the window.

This is awesome. Stuff here I don't have so I'm getting it.
I made a similar thread a few days ago. I'm going to get 2Gb of webspace as well so I might as well add FTP details in here when I get it up and going. Feel fre to upload any live stuff of any artists you have. I can't be half arsed to go find stuff any more these days but if we can make a system whereby we all just meander around a few FTPs upping and downing files, I'll happy with that.

no worries. was a great gig. 'tis just a pisser they ran outta time and lopped hallways off the end of the set.
gravityau: lemme know if i'm hogging too much room on yer server. thanks for providing it. i intend to u/l the entire gig except for the 3 new songs. ~430mb all up.
by the by, is anyone aware of the band's stance on taping?

just to let you all know - the sfk ftp might be down in a few days... I'm in the process of moving to a new hosting server, one which i hope is actually stable and has 3 GB Disk Storage and 45 GB Monthly Bandwidth.
Is it worth while fine turning the ftp? meaning, sharing via http? and creating a catalog? shurgs? I'm also learning mambo as well so might be able to do a few simple things with the ftp. share things like bootlegs, rare items, wallpaper, high jpg images from gigs...
So if you have any problems, please be pacient and all should be resolved shortly.
