Hey everyone, I have a mini-assignment for my Studies of Religion course to complete this weekend. We've basically been given a survey to get people to fill out, then have to write up a report on the findings. Note: You don't have to be religious to answer this survey, I'd actually rather a more broad response, from religious and non-religious. Anyway, these are the set questions.... If you're answering just copy and paste the questions and place your answer underneath.... Thanks so much guys - I really appreciate your help, Collette --- 1. To which age group do you belong? (13-15) (16-18) (19-25) (26-35) (36-50) (50+) 2. Please indicate your sex: 3. Please indicate your nationality: 4. Please indicate your occupation: 5. What is your marital status: Married, Single, Long-Term Relationship or Divorced/Seperated 6. Rank in order of preference from the following list, those things which give the most meaning to your life. (Please rank from 1 to 3 at least) Sport - Money - Family - Friends - Work - Material Possessions - Religion - Health - Travel - Hobbies/Interests - Other (please state) - 7. Please indicate the things in your life that if you lost, would make your life difficult to live. 8. Are you affiliated with a particular religion? Yes - No If yes, does religion help you in your life or give your life meaning? Why/why not? 9. What do you believe happens to you when you die? - ON EDIT: The old-fashioned religion teacher didn't add a category for long-term relationships

8. Are you affiliated with a particular religion? Yes, Buddhism
If yes, does religion help you in your life or give your life meaning? Why/why not? Yes it does. I like to spend time reading and pondering about more meaningful things in life rather than living consumed purely by capitalist dreams and desires. For me it's just like a group of people who think the same way I do. I don't conform to the beliefs because it's the rules of the religion, it's what I believe already, so it's more about hanging out with like minded people for me.
9. What do you believe happens to you when you die? I believe in reincarnation, and also that some people can remain in some form of limbo. In other words some form of life after death. I don't believe that when we die that's it, the soul lives on ... just somewhere else.

Why/why not? 1. To which age group do you belong? (19-25) 2. Please indicate your sex: Male 3. Please indicate your nationality: Australian 4. Please indicate your occupation: Government employee 5. What is your marital status: Married, Single or Divorced/Separated Single 6. Rank in order of preference from the following list, those things which give the most meaning to your life. (Please rank from 1 to 3 at least) Sport - Money - Family - 2 Friends - 3 Work - Material Possessions - Religion - Health - 4 Travel - Hobbies/Interests - 4 Other (please state) - God 1 7. Please indicate the things in your life that if you lost, would make your life difficult to live. Relationship with God, relationships with those I love, my health (mental and physical), and the freedoms and benefits that we have in Australia. 8. Are you affiliated with a particular religion? I'm a Christian. If yes, does religion help you in your life or give your life meaning? Why/why not? God helps me and gives my life meaning. Without God, life and existence is meaningless. The paradox of the atheist is that to be an atheist they must believe that there is no God, no higher purpose to life, and that life is simply a random event that means nothing. Yet the paradox is that while believing this, they must also attempt to create meaning in their lives through their relationships to friends and family, their work, their hobbies, etc. And for what, if it all means nothing? To me it’s illogical for the universe to exist and for us to be endowed with sentience and the ability to love if the ultimate fate of everything is death and nothingness. I believe that I am more than the sum of my parts and am not merely some cosmic dust that implausibly came together with such order and precision to form me the human being. I believe that there is design and order everywhere we look, none of which is possible without there being a reason behind it, and that my life is not random meaningless but rather it has a purpose. And that gives me hope. 9. What do you believe happens to you when you die? I’ll be with God. Heaven you’d call it I guess. And I’ll be with other believers in this place. I don’t know the specifics of it, but imagine all the bad and evil and annoying things on Earth now, and none of that will be in this place. Yeah that'd be great Lou! Only if it's not too much trouble though You want me to ask mine too Collette? I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
