I think so. I've always seen a 'nerd' being a 'geek' without social skills and lacking confidence. The phrase 'cool geek' isn't as much an oxymoron as it may sound. To be a geek and admit that you like estoterric things that confuse most people, you need confidence. You need the confidence to say "fuck you" to the rest of the world and admit that you're proud of who you are. Which, is pretty cool, if you can do that.
