I've always loved this painting - The Scream. It perfectly captures the feeling of anxiety:

I always enjoyed "Relativity" more than that one Collette. woah, I remember this from when I was a small kint (maybe 7ish). I'm not sure where I had it, but I used to own it somewhere, maybe in a small book. I was totally obsessed with it for months. Looking at it over and over trying to see things from all perspectives. Wooh.

I loathe that forms of art like comics have often been looked down on and considered “low art” when they’ve often had just as much strength to comment on society, people, and life. Charles M. Schulz was particularly brilliant in doing this with his creation Peanuts as seen in this example here commenting on the state of the popular music industry in contemporary society. It’s as relevant now as it was when he wrote it.

I like Jae Lee as well KD. He did a 3 issue run of Spiderman in the early 90's that featured him fighting alongside Iron Fist (which I'm sure is a porn alter ego in the adult film industry), and I really digged that.

Bocca Della Verita The marble mask dates back to the 4th century B.C. According to popular legend, it is said that anyone who puts their hand in the mouth and swears falsely, can not withdraw it. My grandfather made a copy of this out of plastiscene(sp) and used to tell me that if I put my hand in its mouth and lied, it would bite my hand off. While in Surfers with my family we saw a machine that was basically a model of la bocca della verita that you inserted a coin, put your hand in the mouth and it read your palm. I still can't put my hand in it...mainly because I did and my dad yelled loudly and I screamed, beside the point! Anyway, I really like this mask. Never knew that. I saw one at 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' museum, and threw my hand in there. Ha. Also saw a figure that if you touch you're meant to get pregnant -- wasn't so quick to go near that one though.

Helena Almeida 'Sem título' 1994-95 (detail) I saw her collections at the Biennale. I really liked it. I was prepared to nick them right off the wall, but alas I would have got in trouble.

Yeah, and don’t get me wrong here, because I like this thread and Collette has posted some pretty interesting artwork here, most of them really good. However, there’s been some where my brain has screamed “what fucking pretentious crap is that!?”<br> I remember seeing a documentary of an artiste on SBS years ago. She’d opened an exhibition to show her photography and invited a bunch of arty people to view them. One pretentious old guy holding onto a glass of champagne and wearing a beret looked at her photographs of stationary truck wheels and said slowly “hmm, I really like this piece of hers. It really moves me”.
Erm, it’s a fucking truck wheel!

Mark, which artworks are the ones that made your brain scream “what fucking pretentious crap is that!?” Could I hazard a guess and say that it was all of them?
