i'm currently racing through fast food nation by eric schlosser, and was just curious as to other peoples opinions on it (considering you've read it, eh ). i'm sure it doesn't all apply, exactly, to australia, considering it's mainly american-based research and findings, but it's opened my eyes a hell of a lot. i've never known the full extent of these fast food joints... evilness? it's an incredible read, and even if it doesn't discourage me from eating fast food ever again, it will definately make me think twice about it. yuck.

i wouldnt mind reading it but yeah some of those joints are evil indeed!
maccas buy the most land in the world to breed cows to slaughter them, and theyre treated bad too.
red rooster apparently use chicken brains and chicken fat in some of their food.
i heard something about cow brains or something being used in hungry jacks' milkshakes or something (any confirmation?)
and read Muzzy Pepped's comment on coke, which is just a reflection so yeah....

actually, the problem with the cattle is mcdonalds don't buy the land to hold them, and so many cows are forced to live pretty much touching each other. that means they actually live and sleep in their own excrement, and are more prone to dangerous diseases. it comes down to the factories that produce the patties, that fail to follow strict guidelines, covering up records about employee deaths (countless limbs and lives are lost everyday in machinery and from flying cows (i kid you not!) because workers aren't educated or properly protected) and product safety. the meat often falls on the floor, or comes into contact with the cattles excrement, and it is still processed and put on your burger. i could go on and on, but yeah, it's charming, really.

moo
Didn't the mad cow disease come about because abattoirs or farmers were turning herbivore cows into carnivorous cannibals by feeding them chopped up cows that couldn't be fed to humans? Or so I heard.

Or so I heard. now that's disgusting I read the McLibel story which is also quite good - about some hippies that used to inform people about the evil ways of Macca's and ended up in a huge court battle with them. In the book it says that their chickens are kept in spaces smaller than an A4 sheet of paper their ENTIRE lives and they never see sunlight. Then, they are hung upside down and electrocuted.

And McDonalds trying to look all friendly with their big yellow arches ( some people call them golden, which I don't get because it's yellow..... : And those annoying adds "It's the things that make you go MMMMMMMMMMM" McDonalds is evil, to customers, workers, the environment and animals! Good on the hippies that tryed to expose them. Of course the jury and the judge were most probably McDonalds lovers............

Typical rabid greenpeace propaganda (spot the sourced facts - not!! These people do no credit for themselves when they just write so emotively without hard data to back it up... ). How do we know their propaganda is anymore or less true than MacDonalds? They don't always get their scientific facts right particularly if it doesn't suit their agenda. (I'm just sucking semantic eggs - I guess I'm asking people to be a little more critical about what they read and choose to believe! ) Anyways that said, what is the difference really between MacDonalds and any other evil transnational? it's appropriate that Macdonalds originated from the ultimate rogue state.

Yes dirtgirl. I'm sure Macca's have never harmed, mistreated or exploited and animal or person in the entire existence of the company. It must just be some crazy hippies . Oh, and i guess since they are not the only company doing it, it is ok, we may as well let them all do whatever they want.

And it's also a little hard when evidence lies in Third World Countries.
