if god is so great and almighty why then is he so judgemental? i guess i just answered my own question. i hate to offend but i can not stand people that judge others and god is in no way the exception.

I hadn't realise any of us had actually "met" God and could therefore give a description of his/her tolerance, demanour and personality.
Apparantly I was wrong.

all i was saying is that the bible, to my knowledge, which is limited. does exclude certiain people based on who they are which leads to an excuse for some people that are religious to discriminate against certain people in society.

The bible is a document written by people - churches are congregations formed by people. I think it is us, rather than a deity, that is excluding certain groups of people.

That is a simple question to answer - homophobia. The exclusion of gays from church is because of petty human bigotry.

But it actually has nothing to do with god? Is it just that all religious people are homophobic?

not all religious people are homophobic. Some of them are completely open to the idea of persecuted minority groups sharing in their faith. Others are followers of Christian denomination dogma spawned eons ago by people high in the patriarchy that ARE homophobic. And others still are just homophobic.

But doesn't the word "homophobia" mean to be afraid of homosexuals? For example, people who decide to bash or kill homosexuals because they're afraid of it? Sure the Christian churches may have a philosophical objection to homosexuality but despite that, they're not advocating being fearful of homosexuals and hurting homosexuals or rejecting them as people. Likewise, they're not stopping the said homosexuals from participating in their church service either.

By refusing them communion, they are practicing homophobia...a less violent act than assault or murder perhaps...but it's discrimination...homophobia all the same.

They'd refuse me communion too because I don't completely believe what they believe in terms of church dogma. And it's their right to refuse me communion. I'd be a hypocrite if I were to want it.

Difference being that you could go and sit through the service, and recieve your Communion...they don't know you don't hold with their beliefs. However, as soon as you wear a rainbow sash, the priest won't give you the biscuit.
I don't know...part of me is cheering them on...but part of me thinks they're just wasting their time, and surely can find something better to do with their Sunday morning.
It's still discrimination...no matter which way you look at it...the question is whether the Church is right (entitled?) to do it.
