The spark is the catalyst, The person who burns the truth out of me. Smells my sweet, layered scent, Not knowing that it can never be recaptured. Unaware that our learning times are like a sandalwood stick Which won’t first-glow twice But remain charred remnants Usable as base material only. As we learn we burn, So it seems to me. I have less and less To see in most discovered ashes, The spark long since snuffed out Only fleeting dents of memory to cling to, And glowing embers. (this one is very old... but i like it

No. It's a matter of attitude! You chose whether the cup is half full or empty.

well i "choose" half-empty then. maybe i'm weak for doing so, but what use is a car without an engine? okay, it has uses (most notably melting down for the reuse of the metal) but i wanted to drive the car. in a sense, it's even more pessemistic to pretend the car is still a positive influence. the shadow of a thought, "i don't want to melt this fucking car down, i want to drive it" will always remain. so, i see the engine-less car as a half-empty glass, rather than a half-full one. doesn't mean i don't WANT the glass fuller... (woo, a simile within a metaphor!) i'm just not in the headspace to think of things in a glass-half-full way...

Whether the glass is half-full or half-empty is entirely dependent on whether you're filling it or empyting it. Dude. Deep.

Exactly... And as for cars with no engines, I have to tell you a true story about the power of positive thinking... A couple of years ago I was driving from Newman to Nullagine (~100km trip in the middle of the desert) and I ran across a group of aboriginal people who's car had apparently broken down - serious stuff when you are in the middle of nowwhere with only about 1.5L of water between about 10 people...anyways I digress... I stopped to see what I could do to help. As it turned out when I popped the bonnet, the car had NO ENGINE!! These guys had been heading from Meethatherra (sp) to a place called Jiggalong (well over 1000km distance) and had been managing up to that point to scam people into thinking their car had broken down, and had managed to get themselves towed almost 9/10ths of the way to their intended destination with a car sansengine!!! They manged to do this I believe because they believed in the goodness (and gullability no doubt also ) of people. These were people who seriously saw their cup as half full...no obstacle or distance was too big to overcome! 8) Anyways... ;D

As do the Bush Cooks! Nothing nicer than a roast that has been cooked on the manifold, after a seven hour drive from Newman to Karrratha... ;D

The glass is never half full or empty. Assumption that this "glass" is of a standard size (250ml) therefore, you have 125ml of the element contained therein.
Moral to my schtory: You've got what you've got.
If I have to choose (against my will) whether the blasted thing is full or empty, of course the dirty arsed poor excuse for a glass is half-empty.

Geez, you're a cheery lot; NOT!!! Lighten up people, it could be worse. You could be refugees in Woomera, a starving indian, a homeless person... I think some people here need to put their lives into a bit more persective...look at the bigger picture. What do you really have to complain about! Your collective negativity is depressing me.
