You know... I was just talking about this topic to my brother driving back from Townsville a couple of days ago. Only I was talking about it directly affecting your brain and how that is manifested in your driving.
If you're driving your car (on the highway my case was) and there is a slow song on, you have no problem doing the speed limit. But if a fast song or song you like comes on you automatically start driving faster. And it's not just songs you know because I was listening to Metalica's Symphony album at the time and I don't really know those songs.
Our theory is, that as you drive, your brain tries to sync your vision to the beat or rythym of the music. As everything is flying past your car (trees, bushes, post things etc) you try to get those things to pass you at the same rate that the music is playing at.
I also think that to some degree, the music can make you more alert, and more precise in your control of the car. And on the other hand, if the song is slow, it can make you drowsy and sloppy at the wheel.
I was doing 100k/hr over the bridge here which is only 80k/hr and I never normally go over the limit on that bridge.
We should conduct studies...

no, that's very legit - i've heard the same thing said before, except in relation to what type of music, stores play. ie. clothes shops generally play slower music so you walk slower, and take in everything around you more, and are then more likely to make a purchase. or so i've heard.

there is a Westfield in Canberra that plays non-stop Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra in the smoking/viewing area on the 3rd level. This is done to deter teenagers from loitering around - a great idea in my mind, as I hate them all as well.

I'm confused! Do you hate the teenagers or Dean Martin?
