I've been at work for most of the day so I've missed everything... Did they talk to the band before playing #2, and if yes can anyone tell me what they said?

Yes, they talked to Paul before playing three dimensions and again before monsters. Can't really remember what was said but something was asked about them being a serious band and then they asked if a whoopee cushion was put on someone's chair, who would it most likely to have been put there by, and Paul said Clint - whoopee cushions, Paul - fake vomit and Steph - can of shaving cream. Charming. And sad that that's all I remember. Oh, Paul seemed really happy that they'd done so well.
I suppose number 1 would've been nice but at least an aussie got it and the main thing is SFK beat System of a Down and Alien Ant Farm! Yay!

ayeah thats pretty cool .. i thought AAF was gona get the no.1 spot, though im not personally a fan of Alex Lloyd, my hat goes off to him for reaching the spot. . . .
Thankfully there were no powederfinger songs in this year. .
But also a big congrats to Blueline Medic, with their track "Making the nouveau riche" in at no.68 .. . pretty good considering they dont have pepsi sponsorships or have endless funds from their record companies (Being Redline and Fueled By Ramen, prestigious but not the richest of indie record labels). . .good work dude!!!

Well my post mortem:
As expected, no write-ins made it, which proves the responsibility of triple j to not fuck up the voting list like last year. Renegades of Funk is the latest to make it two years straight. Thankfully Limp Bizkit - Faith didn't make it, I was surprised to see no Rollin' though.
THE GOOD: Me tipping the quinella and winning $36 in the process. SFK doing so well. An Australian #1 again. Jay from 28 days dedicating Say What to Scott Murray. Adam and Wil closing the show. Piss funny stuff.
THE BAD: The stuffed up voting. That the tape ran out on #3. Lucky I was listening. The lack of Outkast, with the exception of Sorry Matt Hayden, a classic!
THE SURPRISING: John Butler Trio at #5. Great stuff. (I thought Take would be higher than Betterman too) Machine Gun Fellatio at 30. Didn't see that coming. The low placings of Linkin Park, Michael Franti, Good Charlotte and Sum 41. Nobody reading out the songs that got 1 vote. I voted for John Williamson "This is Australia calling" from the Telstra ads.
Early 2002 predictions: Say Something to get shafted due to being too early in the year. JJJ to screw up the voting list. Silverchair to have a top 10 song. Foo Fighters to come out firing. An amusing pisstake of cover songs (possibly by Frenzal Rhomb) to be top 20 material. We're talking either a bad Michael Jackson cover, or a Nikki Webster cover.

Some figures for you: SFK made up 3% of this years Hottest 100! Did any others get more than that? John Butler Trio did great to get up there, and my non-existant hat is also off to Mr. Lloyd, love his song but don't even have it in MP3!!

I got 36 out of 100 songs as Australian... pretty good in an industry dominated by American marketing. Echoing The Anarchitect, big congrats to Blueline Medic, whose severely underrated release of a few years back, Plight 217, was sorely neglected.
What songs do y'all think were neglected? What songs shouldn't have made it? Personally, I think Eskimo Joe should have been lower... their EP was so much better than the Girl album. And Unwritten Law, what were they thinking? I would have liked to see R.E.M.'s All The Way To Reno and Steven Malkmus' Discretion Grove get in, both great songs.

can't disagree more with you - eskimo joe should of been higher and had more songs.....i can't believe sydney song didn't make it, jjj play it more than any of their other songs (singles).
i was dissappointed that turin brakes "underdog" and charlatans "you're so pretty" both missed out, and that bleed american wasn't higher. But overall, a strong list. I just hope they make the compilation a good one (ie without AAF).
when they were interviewing paul for no.2, he said, quite seriously, "thats amazing"....i couldn't stop laughing, and then he said it again.
all in though, amazing is a pretty crap song. would have much preferred chop suey or that weird monsters song to have won.....
"sorry matt hayden.....you are for real"
they said that even the lowest songs in the list still got thousands of votes....so its going to be pretty hard for any song that isn't a single to get onto the list i suppose....maybe one year we'll get a bside onto the list...
.....wait a minute...the list is a bit fishy, theres something not quite right about....can't quite put my finger on it....didn't the cure release a new song this year? and its not on the Hottest 100? what is the world coming to?

I got 36 out of 100 songs as Australian... TripleJ has a policy to play at least 35% Australian music 36 out of 100 is awfully close to that figure if you ask me. pretty interesting...

I've gone off Eskimo Joe... I liked the old Ruby Wednesday and Sweater and all that stuff. I even liked Who Sold Her Out but after hearing Planet Earth I was singing Who Sold Us Out. Looking at it cynically, I just thought it was a bit too easy "Hmmm let's make an album. What can we sing about? I know, girls. Yay that will get us some airplay".
People might call me a hypocrite because of my confessed love of Britney and admiration of Robbie Williams, but they were always doing that and are unashamadely pop. Eskimo Joe seemed to change into the pop industry, and disguise it as "maturity".
Same goes for Blink 182. Dude Ranch was good. Enema of the State was passable. Pants and Jacket blows.
