I was watching the Live @ The Wireless section of 'A Diversion' recently and hearing how good paul's guitar named 'Monster' sounds, I remembered that he auctioned it off a while ago. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum was the winner and what type of guitar it was? Thanks

Yep your correct, it was his Japanese built Fender Jazzmaster. From memory he had a few modifications made to it along the way (pickups).
If you are interested in buying one you can pick them up in Australia for about $1500 or so, or if you order them through the Japanese website they are a fair bit cheaper.
Cheers Matt

Cheers Matt What is the URL for the Fender Japan/Ishibashi website? I had the URL for a site that was translated in comprehensible English and gave the price of each model in Yen, but now when i type in www.ishibashi.co.jp or similar or search though google, i get some poorly translated crap that is nothing like the site I originally saw.

Cheers, i think the page in question had frames and a blue background. It also had links to some other majorish guitar companies that Ishibashi also builds for (Gretsch, Epiphone, Gibson etc)

It's close, but no cigar (as the saying goes). However, it does mention prices, though I'm having trouble navigating around, but I'm willing to perservere. Thanks heaps!

Okay, found it, so am I right in saying that at the current excahnge rate, it'd work out to be about $2500 for a 3-colour sunburst jazzmaster, then? (Divide the price in yen by about 80 or whatever the exchange rate is nowadays)

That's pretty close SPDC. Today's exchange rate puts it at $2357.77, although I suppose you'd also have to pay shipping on top of that. This is better than the retail price of $3145.14 (Y$250000).
Now for some quotable quotes from the Jazzmaster page...
I love Engrish. ;D

From memory that is way too much for a japanese Jazzmaster.
When you could access the Ishibashi website the jazzmasters were 64000yen and when you add a hard shell case and shipping it came to approx $AUD1600 (exluding any customs/duty etc)
There is no way that a Jap Jazzmaster will cost you over 3 grand. Thats what you would pay for an american made one.
Also, I am sure that Venue Music is Syndey were selling jaguars and jazzmasters (Jap) for about $1800 as well as the US made which were about $3500.
Cheers, Jarrod
