Just as a side note, it might be better to start a channel on IRC or something rather than AudioGalaxy. You can do auto-matic file sends etc., only it forces people to come and stay within the community while leeching.

yeah, it annoys the hell out of me. and because i never really check audiogalaxy whilst its running i keep finding all these new mp3s on my computer. argh. i think irc is like a whole list of chatrooms, and you choose which one you want to go to. or something.

yeah goto www.mirc.com and download the program and install it, then try to click your way through the menus to understand it. Get on ICQ or something one night and I'll explain you how it works. Basically you just want to decide 2 things: 1. Which 'network' you want to be on 2. What you want your channel to be called Huge networks have more people on them but can be harder to connect to and have more lame people (due to the number of people on there). Smaller servers are nice and serene places but you might not get as many visitors to your channel. I use DALnet for my MP3 leeching, that's why I'd recommend you use DALnet as your IRC network. Other than that DALnet blows

For everyone from here and anyone else who wants to come. You could call it #sfkforthenovice or #somethingforkate for the all out stealing of the official name I doubt the band will want an official IRC channel for themselves so you could use it anyway.

you can also set up a file server from with in IRC. I never used any, but hackers swear by it. go to www.lando.co.uk and to stuff and it gives some information on this...

This is my first post so I hope it ends up in the right spot. No-one ever seems to be online at Audio Galaxy. How about Morpheus as an alternative. It works exactly the same way as Napster. You can see who is uploading from you as well as limit the number of uploads.

If you are wanting to develop a "community" then IRC is definitely the one to use. It gets the people together in a "room" where you can talk, whereas Napster/Morpheus style is basically like AudioGalaxy - leech off every sucker. I might also add that making a chat room could detract from use of the message board (if you end up with everyone in there talking not as much traffic will hit the board for talking). Yes you can set up fileservers, it's not that hard you just get an add-on script for mIRC and it will play/share mp3s for you AND you can limit the number of sends You will of course still suffer the bottleneck at the start katy, when everyone wants that new bootleg.

good thinking catfish (as always ) to olsenti - im on morpheus a fair bit too with all my mp3s also add me to your list on ICQ and ask me if im on when you see me online... i only go on there if i really really want something cause it slows my computer right down (cause morpheus is soooooo god damn slow)

Ok, I'm sick of audio galaxy leechers (probably people fom here) getting me when i go on to d/l some songs i cant find, so who wants to start up the IRC channel?
katy you should probably be the founder of the channel (the person that has most power), but the founder has to come in regularly, at least once every 1 month i think and identify their nickname so the channel doesn't deregister.
My ICQ/MSN is 11358647 upthepiss@hotmail.com so we need to get online so we can set it all up and teach anyone who wants to use it and doesn't know howto.
