i thought a few songs off neon ballroom were ok eg.emotion sickness but the orchestral nonsense should have stopped there - now i can't even listen to diorama without cringing

I'll concede Diorama isn't for everyone - but you can tell they are trying - unlike recent albums by Grinspoon, Jebediah and Killing Heidi (I'm sorry Ella, I still love you)

She has her lip pierced? I don't mind Killing Heidi, never been that fussed on them, but I don't mind them. I haven't heard all of the new album Present but some songs I have like Ammyl I really like. ..my 2 cents....

ok um,......this may just be a bit of a myth but.....apparently they had session musos record on parts of reflector..and i have a million and one stories about their manager trying to get them booked and saying, yeah, they're alternative, our bass has dreds
gah
whatever floats your boat though

Perhaps yeah, but see, I don't really care if they're "alternative" or not. If I like a song or two, then I like the song, and that's all that matters I'd think.

No, I know what you mean, "look at us, we have dreads, aren't we so alternative like everyone else with dreads?". It shits me too, but in spite of that, if they can make music that I like then that's going to take priority over any attempted alternacred antics.

My opinion of Silverchair is similar to most of your's. I liked 'Frogstomp', 'Freakshow' and 'Neon Ballroom' but 'Diorama' is definately a huge disappointment. The only two songs on there I like is 'One Way Mule' and 'Lever'. But I never even take the time to listen to them because I can't be bothered finding the cd somewhere at the bottom of my cd rack and putting it in the cd player and pressing play because I can't just sit and listen to it I have to sift through all the crap to find the decent songs which means pushing some buttons on my remote comtrol...I'm afraid that involves a little tooo much effort for my liking.
As for Jebediah I loved the first album. The second album had a few highlights. The recent album average.
Both bands seem to be goiing down hill...fast

the orchestral nonsense should have stopped there - now i can't even listen to diorama without cringing i like orchestral nonsense (when done by real orchestras as opposed to keyboards) symphony metallica is amazing and that's all i currently have to say about silverchair

It shits me too, but in spite of that, if they can make music that I like then that's going to take priority over any attempted alternacred antics. Actually, I have read that the reason the Hooper kids has dreds in the first place was because of the Melbourne gas shortage a few years back - they couldn't have hot showers. Sounds plausible to me. Having seen them live I can't at all say that they are untalented, and are all skilled musicians - maybe they should get off their knees and stop sucking on corporate cock though.
