Katy: Orson Wells wrote 'The War of The Worlds' in 1898 and the first radio broadcast was aired in 1938. Americans thought that it was real and were under the impression that aliens were truly attacking Earth. Jeff Wayne did a musical reprise of it (above) in 1978 and was a 7" and 12". It's available on CD nowadays. More than half of the entire cd is an electric guitar, very well played. If you eventually do listen to it one day, keep your ears open for the aliens Heres a really good website with the history if you wanna know more (or anyone who does) drzeus.best.vwh.net/wotw/wotw.htmlTheres also a movie version from 1960 I believe, I've seen it once, and it wasn't bad for something of its era. The aliens in it fly in hovercraft like ships but Jeff Wayne's version (and most others) mainly have a tripod like machine instead of flying machines.

do explain. whatever is a therimin? Ok, from memory (without looking it up) the theremin is an electric instrument that was invented at the start of the 20th century by some Russian guy called.. theremin. It's basically two metal poles. An electromagnetic field is created between them. You put your hands into the field and the volume, tone, and pitch of the sound changes depending on how and which way you move your hands. It has a very eerie high pitched sound and was used in the theme to the movie war of the worlds. It was also appropriately used in many 50's b-grade horror movies. In terms of songs, it was used in the beach boys' song good vibrations, and more recently (the 90s) it was heavily used by British trance/trip hop group Portishead. Especially in their songs Mysterons and Humming. Type 'theremin' into google and see for yourself. It's a pretty unique instrument.

Well, it might be a bit too obvious, but... Something For Kate! I'd be really curious to hear a cover of SFK's songs.

Well, it might be a bit too obvious, but... Something For Kate! I'd be really curious to hear a cover of SFK's songs. Yeah we will definetly be doing some sfk, it's just hard to pick something that would go down well in a night club that people can dance to. Most of the other stuff will probably be fast / heavy kind of stuff and most sfk songs could bring down the tempo a bit when alongside these songs [ i don't know if you've even seen cover bands with a huge crowd, then they play a song which is a bit slower and the floor clears ... ] I guess monsters or something would be cool, but we are trying to avoid the whole 'we play the singles of every good band' type thing that goes on. This is the best place to find out the best sfk songs to play Suggestions?

Hmm, okay, well not You Only I, White, Strategy, and Beautiful Sharks. Maybe something up tempoish/loudish like: - Anarchitect
- Prick
- Working Against Me
- Captain (almost everyone knows this song)
- Hallways
- Electricity
- Before Butterfly's Wings (which certainly went off at channel v last year, pity they didn't include it on the DVD, hrm)
- Monsters (almost everyone knows this song)
- Three Dimensions (almost everyone knows this song)
- Jerry Stand Up (if you have a strong singer who can go "crazy" like Paul does live at the end of this)
- Almost anything pre Elsewhere (but no Slow)
Yup.
