*waves* I'm back and alive! went on a little trip and back in town.
Went to my first gig last night in ages. My partner and I saw The Matches (USA) at East Brunswick Club. Wicket set! Going to British India tomorrow night. I can't wait. Haven't been to a gig in ages. Sadly missed out at SFK for the corner cause I was in Ko Phi Phi...
So instead I sat on the beach listening to Echolalia while watching an electrical storm. Now I understand why Dempsey loves Phi Phi.

Hello!!! Yes I admit it I'm a lurker, but only cos I don't see the point of writing crap that no ones interested in, so i wait till i've got something to say & then post.
I missed the corner show due to being a poor pov person, am hopeful for another special show in melb later in the year. Hope Paul writes heaps of songs he needs to practice in front of an audience. Does anyone know if the new sfk album will be recorded in OZ?

Hi stray, from all reports a Dempsey solo album is next cab off the rank, before they consider the next sfk album. and judging by the new song Paul played at the corner the other week- im tipping Paul could have a hit record on his hands (ala bernard fanning). You heard it here first folks!

Does winning the Hottest 100 constitute as selling out these days?

I'm not saying Fanning is or isn't a sellout, but I'm wondering how winning the Hottest 100 makes him a sellout? It's something he has no control over?

It doesn't, good on him. He has a great voice and he hasn't left Powderfinger...

With regards to the hottest 100 - Fanning isnt a sell out for being number one. It's more to do about his tactics in the voting for the hottest 100.
During the campaign to get people to vote, there was a mass marketing ploy - which isnt different from any other band - expect for the fact they had a huge competition with the first prize being a holiday.
There was a lot of angry fans out there who thought Fanning shouldn't get the number one spot.Ben Lee who came in second said during his interview he was amazed he came so far in the count down and he didn't even have to offer anything for people to vote for him.
While some people might think this is nothing - a lot of bands are offering DVDs and other stuff if you vote for them... It is still somewhat unfair. And in my personal opinion I thought it was a very cheeky tactic fanning and his management devised.
I saw him live at TGE '06 and he didnt really grab my attention. I've seen powderfinger and they are amazing. but Fanning by himself is just a total tool. Almost as bad as jet!
But then again thats just my two cents...

Ok, that's not cool. I didn't know about that.
I also saw him at the great escape and was a little blah but it was cool when Claire Bowditch came out for a duet, that was beautiful. But i have to agree that I'd like him to stick to Powderfinger (just like Paul always should come back to Something)
How about those Black Keys though

to be fair everyone was paying for votes long before fanning ever did
the internet has ruined the hottest 100. it was better when people who didn't listen to JJJ didn't vote in it

Been to the past two TGE. It's where my hatred for silverchair developed. I was standing around waiting for kate to start (whom were on stage before silverchair) and the first two rows of people where all SC fans. When kate finally came out all the SC fans started to boo, harass the band and continuously talked through the whole set - going on how crap dempsey is. meh! when silverchair was on - i walked far away from the stage. but omg sigur ros! omg! they blew my mind away.

His new album is supposed to come out at the end of the year... for memory. The song I've heard is very Dempsey so I spose its similar to SFK, I've only heard one or two though (homebake)... Looking forward to the solo tour (there better be one), its so depressing not having a gig to look forward to, the sfk website is so stagnant at the moment.
PS was on the ferris wheel for the whole sigur set... AMAZING!! Sounds like you were in a crappy part of the audience, I stood back a bit and everyone was cool

Sounds like you were in a crappy part of the audience, I stood back a bit and everyone was cool there is a solo gig this weekend for melb ppl only (damn for those not in melb - yay for me). Hopefully get a peak at one or two songs. the only thing the shop is really small. so shrugs. the whole bad experience at TGE was when silverchair was on. Saw Sigur Ros and it was one of the most amazing experiences. would have been amazing to see it from the ferris wheel. That ferris wheel had some fantastic memories. My mate had a little digital camera which he manage to drop from the farris wheel. It slipped out of his hand onto the floor which then drop down the grill. Almost landed on some poor ladies head. She handed it to us after the ride. The casing came open - which simply clicked into place. he was estatic his camera still worked.
