happened to catch an article in the paper about some ppl campaigning to have the 'evil' 4wds exiled from city streets. we own a pajero 96 model, and have never had an accident, and find it most efficent in many ways, but alas, our road tripping and camping days have ended, its just use for transport. errr....anyway, im wondering what everyone else thinks? heres the website www.nosuv.org.nz/in my opinion its a big load of bullshit. anyway, cyas later.

Sorry Deane...but I hate the bloody things.
They're too big, inefficient, neither drive as well or are as safe as normal station wagons...and they're intimidate other drivers. I was in a pretty bad accident last year, and while I'll admit that I was at fault...was a result of me not being able to see past a 4WD into the next lane.
They have their uses, but for the most part, simply don't belong on suburban roads

i'm with glenny on this one. they're simply not necessary if you're just driving around the city - and they do scare the crap out of many people, myself included - and they get in the way. being in an excel, a 4wd could plough over me without stopping, and well, i like my car!

I agree, 4WD are for the bush only. I can i say this as a professional 4WD driver!! The reality is (having had accidents in them) is that they are less safe than cars especially when driven by people who have no idea how to drive them. Plus they are less fuel efficient. If you still want your city 4WD to tow the yacht - you definitely don't need the bull bars. Last time I checked there weren't many bulls in the city and they make a mighty mess of the pedestrains they hit...

yeah i agree with glenny, mel and di known up my way as 'turramurra tractors' they're just not needed for city/suburban driving. and a lot of people that do use them don't ever use them for the purpose they're built for, the bush. i hear mum's saying they like being up higher, and they can see everything, but then they're blocking views of other cars. i don't like them i don't mind them if they're actually used out in the bush (except when they're trampling ecosystems...but that's another story...) but when they're bought just for driving the kids to school etc they're just not needed.. have to disagree with you there deaney, sorry hehe

I think banning them is a bit extreme...but I think some of the models don't need to be quite so huge! ANd yeah, when they are just used to drive around the city and stuff, you start to wonder why anyone would bother...?

4wds are safe when driven how they should be........but most people drive them like they would a car.......not allowing for inferior handling and stopping........I believe 4WD drivers should have to have a special license

yeah i don't think they should be banned completly but owners should have to prove that they use it for something other than city driving. although how they do that i don't know...
It's unfair to ban them completly for city roads as the people that actually do use them for the bush may not have enough money for another car for the city roads.

I don't think we should ban 4WD as they are a necessaity (sp) to get around in various parts of this country (think anywhere above the 26 parallel). There should be conditions however on their use in the cities. But training people how to drive the damn things properly is definitely a start. Most accidents are caused by shit drivers, not shit cars...

[whinge] I think they need to get rid of the bull bars at the front [if they haven't already] that are intended for cattle, not pedestrians. And if they wanted to ban them i wouldn't care less - i hate them too. Too many idiots buy they cause they think it won't matter if they have an accident and drive like ad idiot cause they are in a huge car. Too bad for everyone else though. I also hate when you can't see past them at intersections when you are trying to turn [/whinge]

not all 4wds have bullbars, we dont, and some are banned. i totally agree with the bullbars and the danger they pose - im against the 'outlawing' of 4wds because what about vans? trucks? lorries? etc etc - you cant see around them either
