I only just got broadband. I have 2000MB a month to use which I have somehow managed to use in a month when I only downloaded about 5 mp3s, and watched about 20 short streaming videos. I looked at my usage statistics and it said I was using about 90MB a day! I figured this was from playing online games, but yesterday I was online for only 2 hours (not playing any online games) and it says I used 25MB! I need to figure out what it is that I'm using that chewing up so much stuff! I downloaded Kazaa and I'm worried some kind of monitoring thing is doing it in the background! Here's some various things I do online: Yahoo Pool Wolfenstein multiplayer Browsing this forum Neopets General browsing Occasionally mp3s on Kazaa Live Journal stuff MSN Messenger - which I don't use much but leave on a lot Outlook Express - which is on whenever I'm online (checks for messages every minute) and thats all

Do you upload a lot of stuff on kazaa?
I had a bill a few years ago where I went 7 gig over the monthly limit because I left kazaa on 24/7. It doesn't seem much to be sending one song at a time for a month, but it adds up pretty fast.
With a two gig transfer limit, you might have to turn file uploading off completely.
Also, Kazaa *is* riddled with spyware. So that'll probably be adding to the count as well.
You'd be better off to go searching for a version of Klite if you can. They're hard to find these days because Kazaa has declare war on the hacked version, but they still exist in a few select corners. If you can't find one, you'd be better off changing to another p2p client.

If upload count toward your limit, you should check no programs are uploading stuff (like Kazaa, mentioned above). Online gaiming, like Wolfenstein, would take up no more than 12Mb/hour, I used to check this years ago when i played online games a lot, though newer games use less network traffic i think. (So it woud be even less). Your best bet is definitely turn off kazaa and any other auto-sharing programs completely and then compare the data transfer. 2Gb / month is shit. I d/l 100gb alone last month

I would LOVE a higher download limit but unfortunately that's all I can afford at the moment I don't upload anything on Kazaa at all, I have file sharing turned off completely. If it's not wolfenstein that's doing it then I'm really worried What the hell could be using that much data? What's K-Lite?

Kazaa Lite. Same thing, but without spyware and shit, basically.

Try a spyware removal program such as AdAware. If any spyware is using up your bandwidth, that'd get rid of it.

I bought some chewing gum off eBay with that on it. I thought it was just a once off so the funniest thing ever. I didn't realise that there was a whole 'thing'

Try a spyware removal program such as AdAware. If any spyware is using up your bandwidth, that'd get rid of it. If you run adaware to get rid of the spyware that kazaa has installed, kazaa stops working. You need to completely uninstall kazaa, then run adaware, then install kazaa lite. It's a real bastard of a program.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
Does your limit include downloads AND uploads? Or just downloads?

Ours is 50g of dls, uploads are unlimited. It's a bad plan if your limit includes uploads.
