I think that means both. Who's your ISP?

My missus and I are moving out of our current living arrangement into our own ACT residence shortly - so I am in the market for an ADSL ISP again.
Can anyone suggest an ISP with a $0 connection cost (as I have my own ADSL modem), 256 or 512 speed and a decent download allowance? I don't really wanna spend more than $50 a month either, being a student and all.

I can't search for the $0 connection/entry fee thing - so I was hoping someone knew off the top of their head or had a similar plan.

Upload/download is 50gb, so yeah, yours must be 2gb up/download Katy. :/

And in case people didn't know, if you can get cable in your area, it is miles better than DSL. Miles faster anyway. We normally download stuff at 200k/sec from non-bigpond sources. We got 100 gb downloaded last month and they didnt cut our speed down or anything

I think there are different types of adsl, the most common one can only go to 1500 i think. The other types of adsl can go a lot faster though. In a few years we may see broadband being provided through pwer lines which would be cool as it would finally be some competition to Telstra.
We've had cable for about 6 months now and its been reasonably good most of the time. For just $60 a month its a pretty decent deal especially being unlimited*. With Telstra you only get 10gb uncapped and then any time after that they can cap you to 64kb. Most months i've gotten away with 35-50gb and not been capped, but one month i went over and i got capped and it was fucking excruciating. Because the 64kb cap is only a max, you don't neccessarily get that speed. For at least half the month i couldn't get emails cos it was too slow and browsing the net was far slower than regular dialup.

yesterday I was online for only 2 hours (not playing any online games) and it says I used 25MB! if you were browsing for 2 hours that seems pretty normal otherwise, maybe windows update / automatic updates are using it edit: if you are paranoid maybe trial a program like netlimiter, which can tell you the upload/download on a per program basis

Well if it's normal that's ok, just catfish or someone said that online gaming should only use a certain amount that was a lot less. For instance, I played the other night and it was only for 2 hours maximum and it says I used 126MB That really sucks. I'm pretty sure I only went to one server, and didn't change levels throughout that time so nothing additional needed to load. I'm not being paranoid. If I'm using the time legitimately then fair enough, but if I stupidly have something running which is chewing up bandwidth then I want to find out what it is because it is wasting HEAPS. I've just started the new month and I've already used 450MB and I only get 2000MB a month ...
