5Gb isnt really much if you like having entire albums on your mp3 player, i'd say that's why its so cheap.

I guess, but it wouldn't bother me if I'm going to the gym for an hour at a time, you know? If I spent hours on public transport each day or something, maybe, but I wont be using it heaps, so I don't need heaps. And I can change it around when I feel like it.

The solid state ones, yes. Not the actual 10/20/40gb versions. Solid state players generally dont go past 512mb (flash memory still too expensive for large quantities) The new MuVo2 is quite nice, but for use of ease you cant go past an iPod. I'm not sure how the interface for the MuVo's handle, but I know they've redesigned the old 4gb model navigational functions for the new 5gb version. Eh. Also, might wanna check this one out, too: www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/29/review_creative_zen_micro/F.I.G.J.A.M* * Melanie

Went to JB today and got the one you suggested James. It's so pretty. Mind you, they got in these new iRiver's on Monday. WOOOOOOOO. So pretty. They're 5gb and about $499. I couldn't really justify it though, because all it really has above the one I got is a colour screen, and it's so much more (ie. price of a 20g iPod). If I was rich and didn't care I would've bought that in a heart beat. Man it was HOT.

With the Muvo, you don't need to install the software or anything, it shows up as a removeable drive so you can just drag and drop files. Piss easy and quick. I'm not sure on the Zen, but you'd assume they'd work the same way both being Creative? Size isn't too much of an issue unless you're putting it in your pocket, or using it at the gym or something. If it's just going to sit in your bag or something, it doesn't matter, yeah? And $100 more for 6 times the space is pretty decent. That said, 2500 songs is a lot of music. Even if you have the tracks at a higher quality and have less, it's still heaps. You wont go through 2500 tracks in a half hour, or even in a day of listening. And you can change the tracks around easy enough if you get bored with them or whatever. So, after all that, no fucking idea. I do know the Muvo is HOTT though, and comes in sexy colours. Whichever.

i'd get more than 5gb. you might think 2500 is heaps, but it's not huge. I'd go the creative if you're willing to sacrifice the FM radio. But yeh, have you tried looking at sites like www.cnet.com.au? Or other sites with reviews? It's worthwhile doing the research before you buy so you're not disappointed. The other good thing about those sites is you can compare specific media against eachother.

The 30gb will have a standard laptop drive in it wont it? That would make it substantially heavier than the muvo2 if it does. And more prone to fault. ALthough the muvo2s do have these "portable" harddrives in them, these micro drive things. they are basically tiny hard drives - 1 inch by 10mm or something. I took a risk on getting something with a hard drive instead of solid state, but at this point you have to to get any decent size file storage happening.
Considering how much storage you get, more is always better don't ever let anyone tell you different. The old "yeah but it will hold more music than you'll ever want/need/listen to" is bullcrap. I just quickly worked out you'd get about 80 hours of music in the 5gb storage. That was (1500 [med-hi qual songs] * 3.5 [avg mins long]) / 60 [mins] = hours.
If you ever listen to the radio while you're out then I would suggest the muvo, or if you need or want to record radio or voice/world around you. I got a muvo2 and i'm pretty happy with it.
The worst things about muvo2:
- No way you can strap it to yourself. It's got a little thing to slip a looped string through but thats it. Otherwise it has to sit in a pocket or something. You can't clip it to your pant hem or something like you can a mobile phone. - Volume is not quite as loud as I'd have liked. Some other mp3 players must really suck if the muvo2 is loud compared to others. - Control stick is a little small for me. But a lot of portable devices are. Like most mobile phones. I'm 6'2" male so my hands are pretty huge. - No mode switching buttons on the device. If you want to use radio, you have to use the menu. If you want recording, use the menu. If you want EQ presets, use the menu - it's very annoying. - No mic in jack for recording. It just has a built-in mic in the device for recording. This was a pretty big let down for me cos i wanted to record my dad saying spastic things on it. I havent tried the internal mic for sensitivity yet. - I don't think it is plug and copy without software. Although this might be because I've stripped a lot of shiat out of WinXP with XPLite. And sometimes to disconnect it from your PC properly you MUST click the little poofter icon in the system tray and tell it to disconnect.
That's all the bad stuff I can think of. But it's pretty good in the size/weight areas. And its got a removable battery... unlike certain other over-hyped products. *whistling emoticon*

I have a Creative Digital MP3 Player. Link: www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=216&product=4985It has FM Radio, Recording, and storage as well as the MP3 part. It's 256MB, which isn't too big, but enough for a day at school (holds about 40 average length songs - 6MB each). Cost = $248 from Tandy, but I do believe is cheaper elsewhere. Volume is excellent, I can go up to 10 and be listening at a comfortable-to-loud level, and once I hit above 15, it's loud. Volume goes up to 40 altogether. Sound quality is by far better than my $100 discman. Charges by the computer, however, which is a let down if it dies during the day. A charge to 100% lasts me a full day. Hasn't got a built-in USB Port, so uses a cable. Headphones i got with it are 300x better than that of any other pair of headphones I've bought elsewhere. It's really light as well, and easy to navigate. It's recognised as a removable device, so drag and drop. Overall, a well $248 purchase by my mum for me for Christmas *thumbs up*

JB had purple, blue, everything. I think the white looked better (and apparently like a wannabe iPod according to some?) so got it anyway. Ahh, choices.

Mofo. They didn't have pink. I thought they had all the colours. I so would've got pink.
