I want to get some movies out this weekend. I've seen all the new releases pretty much. I know there are heaps of newer movies over the last year I didn't see but have forgotten about.
Any suggestions?
Once they leave the new release rack they are pretty much gone forever ... as if anyone could be bothered looking through the other section and reading all the titles ... assuming you don't know what movie you are after ...

My brother told me to hire "Shaolin Soccer". I think it's comedy, cos mum said he was in fits of laughter. So bad they were missing the next scene in the movie. Here's the IMDB plot: Plot Outline: A young Shaolin follower reunites with his discouraged brothers to form a soccer team using their martial art skills to their advantage. www.imdb.com/title/tt0286112/

Ummm, probably my favourite dvd of all time is The Best Bits of The Late Show: Champagne Comedy, a couple of video stores aruond me have it in stock, so you might be lucky enough to find it. I really like the dvds of City of God (Cicade de Deus), Big Fish, Before Sunset and Before Sunrise, Edward Scissorhands, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Magnolia and Se7en. If they have music dvds, the best one to get is Neil Finn and Friends - 7 Worlds Collide. - edit, and Shaolin Soccer is pretty awesome, i've heard they massacred the english language version (but it probably won't matter if you haven't seen the original) and if you like that kind of movie Legend of Drunken Master (Drunken Master II) starring Jackie Chan is his best film. - The seven-minute fight at the end of the film took nearly four months to shoot. Chan indicated that one day's filming typically produces three seconds of usable film.

If you go to a huge store, check out the documentary section. I know at mine it's lumped in with sports, thus I stumbled upon it accidently. I found a dvd doco of Michel Gondri's (sp?) work which includes music videos for the white stripes and bjork amongst other things. Looked really interesting, worth checking out.
Secret Life of Us? I'm watching Series 3 dvd with my best friend tomorrow with some deckchairs and vodka ;D

I've gone on a number of 1970's scifi binges, and I think the following would appeal to most people either intellectually or because of the kitsch factor (probably the latter).
Capricorn One Logan's Run Westworld Soylent Green The Omega Man

It's kinda horror, but it's the best movie I've ever seen so I'll suggest it anyway: The Manson Family.
Oh, and Lost In Translation if you haven't seen it. I (heart) Bill Murray!

Shit, that's EXACTLY why I look through the weekly sections. You can catch up on the movies you might have forgotten about, and it's a shyteload cheaper than the overnight shelf

saw these two tonight finally:
Elephant - based on the columbine shootings, won the cannes film award. really moving, requires patience though. it explores the idea of the necessity of meaning behind events.
American Splendour- a biographical movie about an autobiographical comic book, really cute/poignant.
other good movies though..
The Big Lebowski - goofy Coen brothers Drop Dead Fred - funniest adult-like kids movie from the 80s ever. this film takes me straight back to when i was a yung'n. Chinatown - a 70's crime flick with a young jack nicholson, set in the 30's, noir style. Heaven - the one with cate blanchett, set in italy if i remember correctly. and for a good old girly cry, you cant go past Little Women.
and has anyone else seen the motorcycle diaries in the cinemas?? it was really good! deff recommend that.
