from www.mushroommusic.com.au/artist/artist.asp?id=387"Matt Handley is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut solo album 'Won't Get Over You' due for release early in 2005. As singer/songwriter/guitarist for Pollyanna ('94-'02), Matt enjoyed great success with his melancholic pop tunes over 5 albums (Long Player, Junior Rock, Hello Halo, Delta City Skies and Didn't Feel a Thing), hundreds of live shows, and amazing radio and TV play including The Secret Life of Us soundtracks 1+3 and Home and Away. 'Won't Get Over You' is an elegant and heartwrenching album, self produced and recorded with Matt playing every instrument. His songwriting skills are even more evident on this record with it's clean uncluttered arrangements, pervasive moods and emphatic vocal melodies. Tracks range from the introspective 'Rhetorical' to the spiteful album closer 'Feels Just Like..' all however posessing an intimacy only hinted at on Matt's previous recordings." I can't fucking wait. Pollyanna were my first Aussie musical obsession, and I've been waiting 3 1/2 years now to hear anything more from their songwriter/singer Matt Handley.

It is great to see Matt Handley writing and singing again. I miss the Pollyanna days and they were a brilliant live band.

Yes, but the wheels fell out at the end. Matt broke up with Rayke, she married the Ben Folds Five tour manager, they were onto their 4th drummer and Matt's weight blew out to porker proportions.
They also released material so sporadically that their fan base evaporated, and only obsessives like me remember them.

Cant wait till this thing is released. I know it has been a long time in the making and I am sure it wont dissapoint. He is a great all round musician too.

and lets not forget that he can pull off a mean cardigan...
this is fantastic news- also the fact that hes back on a major label, should hopefully get a bit of publicity.
on a related note- anyone else a fan of ex- Pretty Violet Stain songwriter Shane Nicholson? he's coming out with solo record number 2 this year apparently too, which is most exciting ;D

I'm actually suprised he's back on the Mushroom label, considering how acrimoniously they departed after the release of Delta City Skies in 1999. Mushroom only let them release two singles from the album and chucked $250 at them to make the second music video (Feeding Circle). Pollyanna were happy to be rid of the lack of support of the tightarsed company, and the next album was released on the Longshot label which was started by their first manager Sarah Longhurst (which now appears to have disappeared without a trace).
So, Pollyanna fas, which of their 2 EP's and 4 albums do you prefer the most? I've gotta say, I think Delta City Skies is a bit of an opus.

Wasn't Shance Nicholson from PVS? Yep, Shane Nicholson was from Pretty Violet Stain. The link to him was held in this post which was mentioned a little earlier by b]iwonderwhyiquestioneverything?[ [/b] "on a related note- anyone else a fan of ex- Pretty Violet Stain songwriter Shane Nicholson? he's coming out with solo record number 2 this year apparently too, which is most exciting."

So raw, so full of emotion, and it has Big Bully and Electric Cardigan Rock. Delta City skies comes close, but Long Player is just something special.
