her pronunciation of a lot of very basic english words is indeed interesting and more than a tad annoying. "You bathe me in your foinest woine but I'll never give you moine"? What annoys me to find that she doesn't speak like that, it's like she just puts on a singing accent.

almost picked it like a dirty nose..
my predictions were franz, higgins and butler trio..
eskimo joe was a nice surprise i guess... but i have to agree with MARK! triple j is going downhill and the top 100 is practically meaningless these days in terms of representing the quality of music available.

but i have to agree with MARK! triple j is going downhill and the top 100 is practically meaningless these days in terms of representing the quality of music available. you and MARK! need to refrain from being such whinging snobs. 500,000 votes were received for the Hottest 100 this year, and that represents an awful lot of the youth population - I think 2004 was a corker of the year for music, and there was at least something for everyone. The point of a radio station like JJJ is not to exclusively play the music one or two individuals like, nor to be particularly bothered by the whims of any of the cool police.

I honestly thought Franz Ferdinand, Eskimo Joe or Missy Higgins would go number 1. Go me, huh? ;D
I used to listen to Triple J religiously, and I don't much any more. It doesn't mean Triple J's gone to shit, it just means my music tastes have changed, and the J's have changed a bit too. I'm sick of hearing people bagging out Triple J because they don't play 'their music'. It's not shit because you don't like it, that's just your opinion, same with anything. Admittedly, I was surprised tracks like that 'Push Up' song made it in, but as Justin said half a million people voted, so obviously someone is still listening to the J's and they can't be doing that much wrong to be getting that many votes coming in.

I think popular music is moving towards the music that triple j play, instead of JJJ moving towards popular music. Which is a good thing.

Ahh yeah I hate that, it's annoying. I did that to someone once accidentally. I thought I was quoting but I was editing her post. It was much worse since her's was considerably long and she had put a lot of thought into it Thunderhead - no matter what you think of Missy Higgins I hardly think you can compare her to Natalie Imbruglia? It's a pretty vast and baseless comparison.

i'm not paying out the fact that people like the music JJJ play.. i'm purely expressing my dissatisfaction with JJJ for not actually promoting stuff out there that is of a higher quality as much as they do the stuff you hear on high rotation. Call me a music snob, i don't really care, i get it a lot. but yeh, i dunno, i just reckon FBI do a better job when it comes to promoting music with balls.
and with regards to the songs that did feature - the franz ferdinand song is cool until the 20th time you hear it, missy higgins is a sweet simple melding of frente and delta goodrem, and eskimo joe, well i reckon they're a bit of an alright - no complaints there. i think the move away from their more punk days is warranted and a sign that theyre maturing.
not trying to offend anyone, or appear stuck up. just giving my opinion.

I like that Franz song, possiibly because I don't listen to the radio and therefore havent been overexposed to it. In my opinion JJJ have gone to shit, and yes that is a personal bias based on my music taste. There's some alright stuff coming through, but the Js just arent so 'alternative' anymore. I mean, I might as well listen to bloody Nova! (well... I guess they're not THAT bad).
I tolerate Missy but am not a fan. Delta's better.

I like that Franz song but it wasnt one of my fave songs of the year, the problem is the voting system allows you to vote for multiple songs, so people for a song that was something special to them and also tick the box for the catchy tune they thought was alrite for the first few listens. Each vote has the same strength in the countdown. If you could vote for only one song who would have voted Franz Ferdinan? probably not many
oh well wat would I know one of my votes was for 'push up'

My approach to popular music is... 1. not listen to the radio on a regular basis so there is no overexposure 2. Watch rage and video hits late night stuff to hear some pretty good stuff that isn't quite popular yet. I found the music and the donnas recently there. 4.Occasionally turn on the radio to see if there's anything. 5. Get opinion from people on forums (such as this) about cds and stoof.
With this approach, not only do i not get overexposed to songs (i may have heard franz twice on the radio and missy higgins 3 times), but when i finally do catch on, the cds are MUCH MUCH cheaper to buy. I also do not get accused of a popular music yuppie/slave/keeping up with the times tool.
Although this method doesn't work for people who think anything past october last year is "soooo old" *gets frustrated at people say "that song is sooo last year"*
One more thing, i told this guy i listened to ben folds five, and he called me a teenie-bopper choir boy. I asked him what he listened to, he said beyonce knowles, sum 41, blink 182. We had a long heated argument over what teeny-bopper meant, it ended in him saying "yeah well, i made up the word, so i control it's meaning" "no you didn't" "well you're still a teeny bopper, i'm going to watch the OC now.".............................................................................................................

HAHA Troy Dann, I wouldn't normally encourage this, but next time you see that guy, punch his face in for me and then tell him your mate "Catfish" from "an Internet forum" made up the term "teeny bopper" and he told you to "punch his face in" for him for stealing his glory.
I noticed most, if not all of the top 10 were songs played on commercial radio. how do i know? cos I heard most of those songs on commercial radio before i heard them on jjj. like that "you had a boyfriend who looked liked a..." however it goes song, i thought that was some old song that the sea fm type stations had been thrashing for years. turns out it's actually a new song.
I also wondered if JJJ hottest 100 is just becoming more commercialized or if commercial radio is starting to play better music? I saw the start of this back when Alex Lloyd got #1 for Amazing. God damn that Alex Lloyd. He stole #1 from SFK that year. damn it, I spit on him and his Amazing song!
