your instrument list is mad!! i wish i could play the violin.. is it hard ?? i'm thinking of going to get some lessons.. to be frank, its quite a hard instrument. Since its fretless if your fingering is out by a milimetre it sounds pretty awful. (just in case u dont know, the frets are the metal strips that go across the guitar's fingerboard so you know where to put your fingers) I've been playing for 7 years and i still can't get the sound i want, but gradually you get better and better. violin is one of the hardest instruments to play, and you gotta put heapsa effort in and practise heaps, its a full time instrument, unlike the guitar which you can teach yourself, the violin is definitely not something i recommend you teach yourself, and if you do, i suggest you have a VERY strong musical background to understand the tunings, fingerings and bowing. As trivial as it sounds, its bloody hard getting used to how to HOLD the freaking thing. After all that tho, its a fun instrument to play, once you get the basics, join an orchestra and that's where it starts to get fun! Good luck to ya! |

Yeah it's not fair if your parents were to lazy to get you into violin when you were younger you're pretty much screwed. You will nwever be able to do some of the desired fingering technique. I just found out that one of my friends can play at some ridiculous level but she chooses not to play at all now because "the classical stuff is too much work and pressure" I've introduced her to Fourplay and showing her that the Violin is not just a classical instrument, it is whatever music you want to make with it.

She has great technique Natty, hence it is a shame she will not pick up a violin. She's been playing since she was three, the age all good musicians need to start for the serious instruments.

oh ok, i've got a pretty good ear (nearly perfect pitch) and i guess playing guitar would kind of help with the fingering....
anyway keep all those instruments up beceause i'm sure 10 years later you'll be happy that you did..
