Feedback on an artwork... please?

Hello my friends,
I'd really appreciate it if I could get some feedback on an artwork I created recently.... It's an abstract mixed media work, don't know if anyone here really likes that... but here's the link anyway-

Hey

Sorry I'm too lazy to post on that site. I think that's you're best yet. I'm kind of biased though since that's the style I'm really into.

It's very good. My only comment would be though, since you are very artistic, people such inclined are very good at laying things out evenly and making everything "fit" together as a whole. You seem to have done that with this work and it distracts from the nice chaos a little (but of course, some would love the juxtaposition!). Maybe next time allow a little more chaos in terms of the layout and placement of items.

I've always been really anal about composition... every stroke I add...object I stick... I consider it in the context of the whole artwork. In that sense I see myself as a bit of a designer... because technically my artworks and photographs aren't all that strong, but the elements (colour, line, form etc) are all arranged quite well and the composition usually works because of it...

I think being a photographer first and foremost has really helped my art along. Because I don't really place much importance on subject matter, I have to rely on other things to make a photograph work. I've learnt a lot about balance, harmony and unity... and these are things that I think are very important in creating a succesfull artwork.

But yes, this also has it's disadvantages... because alot of my works come across as being very ordered... I've been experimenting lately though with unbalanced compositions, because I think sometimes they really add to the feeling of the photograph... they help to portray feelings of uneasiness, confusion and tension...

So yes, have to try not be such a perfectionist... and get a little bit more of that 'nice chaos' happening. Thanks again for your comment Katy.

wow, I really like this work...I have only just found this post so I would have commented on it before. Like Katy, I'm really like the paticular style of the work. I'm rarely into flashy, vibrant colours in art so the subtle colour changes really works for me.
If i was to add any constuctive criticism, I would agree with Katy that a level of spontenaity (sp?) in the layout or something unexepected as a focal point would take the works to even higher quality.

Alex: Yeah I think for abstract, I prefer more organic colours.... for this style anyway. I like certain colour combinations, but I really dislike the whole spectrum being thrown all over the canvas and then calling it a Pollock Thanks for your critique as well, I really appeciate it. Its always nice to have suggestions from people on how you could possibly improve or make a work more successful, so thanks!

There should hopefully be more traditional art online from me in the coming months. I haven't done much because I've been so focused on my photography, and also because I have no space in my room.... my room is nothing more than a box and it's difficult to use for painting and things where you need some space to move and spread things out. But my parents are building a room in the garage for me, my own studio ;D ;D ;D And the walls go up this weekend.... so more work from now on, and if there isn't, hit me with a stick. Thankyou.

I don't actually sell them, but I aspire to soon enough. At the moment I'd just rather be out taking photographs than arranging to get them printed

Thanks for taking a look at my messy gallery too! hehe it has come to my attention lately that my gallery now represents every major photography trend - abstract, architectural, portraits and people, urban, street, conceptual, nature, landscape, studio and still life etc etc etc. I am yet to endeavour into the world of the artistic nude though. Maybe another time.
