Much like the theological side of any religion the book is either a works "well in theory" or "I already knew that" or even "I am learning nothing new here, I already live my life like that."
To me all of the above applied. Most people would read a book like this and not take much in. Buddism is very band wagony. It's also very much like a craze that is cool for a while but the novelty wears off. And to many, Buddism is much like Something For Kate. I know many people who dislike both but only because they don't get it.
So if you are the sort of person who would recommend SFK to someone knowing that in reality it's a lost cause, I'd recommend this book to them.

I just read a good book called 'Sickened-the Memoir of a Munchausen by Proxy Childhood' which was fantastic!

Lately I've been reading a couple of books (mostly collaberations)
Sightings by Susan Michaels Sightings: UFOs by Susan Michaels Haunted London Great Unsolved Mysteries (No specific Author) Our haunted Kingdom
The Haunted London and Our Haunted Kingdom are quite spooky - England's got another group that should run for an electoral party - the ghosts!

My favourite books a young'un were real life ghost books. Not non fiction, picture books and actual accounts of meetings with the super natural.
I used to read them in bed......... just before going to sleep............. but not really wanting to go to sleep.......... often followed by waking up not longer after heavy eyes made me sleepy.
One time I taped my pull down blind to the window frame because I was sure there was "someone" looking in.
God damn I miss that.
Must go get ghost books.....................

About 3 months ago I read John Birminghams - He Died with a Felafel in his hand
which as tradition dictates is much better than the movie, If you are like me and can't read more than 50 pages in a sitting if the book is first person narrative driven you'll be presently surprised to find the the schism of this book means you won't want to put it down.
I think every kid should get a copy of it upon graduating highschool it's so true it becomes comical.
On another note Deane you mentioned about a UFO book, the best book I found in my stupid catholic school library in highschool was one called "Creatures from Elsewhere"
The art in it was pretty cool
It was probably my most checked out book in that library, I think I had it for a year and a half and just kept renewing it.

That's such a good book. For you people here who watch Buffy/Angel too, I have a feeling that Joss Wheldon borrowed the idea of the character of Faith from Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. The book is about a guy who lives in an apartment complex (in 19th century Russia) whose landlady is a cow that no one likes. He rationalises that if he murders her, he'll be doing the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people, and that he has the right to do this because he has the power to do it. However, such things are never simple or as clear cut as he believes, and the question is, does he have the right to pass judgement like this. When in the first chapter he's forced to kill someone innocent to cover his tracks it all spirals out of control for him. It's a classic book.

I was reading a re-release of Michael Moore's 1997 book, Downsize this. Very funny as usual, but understandably, slightly outdated. Some parts though are universal, so you don't need to be a 1997er to understand it all!
I bought 'Fast Food Nation' the other day and I'm thinking of getting 'No Logo' - Ask me what book I'm reading at the picnic ;D
FFN is quite good. I haven't actually gotten down to the parts about the food contents, I'm up to the bit about the factories that create the 'smells' and 'tastes' within the foods. According to the book, (and this has been proven) the majority of Fast food stores robbed are by ex or current employees, sometimes even the manager!

Oh it gets better, wait until you get to the part about the factories where they create the meat patties. Yum.
Yeah, if you like FFN you'll like No Logo. They're eye-openers to say the least.
I'm currently trying to get through Buffy and Philosophy. Dude.

Yeah, I think you'd like it Mark. A little too indepth for me, being the "just watch it and shut up" kind of person.
Hey, if working at one of those places doesn't fully succeed I doubt a book will work. Mind you, I only eat the not-so-chicken, no cow.
