Blue Boys (a prayer for Carlton)
Just one point! In favour of those cocky, smug Eagles.
Christ! That’s if you exist. Why can’t you cut my boys a break?
I’m not asking for much. Just one win. Dammit!!

If the man on the tim tam ad has taught me anything, karma exists in this world. Maybe John Elliot and the mighty Blues a getting a bit of bad karma for their faboulous recruiting stratergies over the last 20 years (eg. dont draft youngsters - steal good players from other teams)

This is kind of on the topic but not.
With the whole recruitment thing - [i'm talking about rugby league cause i don't know anything about afl sorry, and also basketball cause i noticed it then too when i used to watch it years ago ]
Teams should only be able to have players who live in the area. ie the Newcastle Knights should consist of Newcastle locals. That way, they can't say gee you can't afford Matthew and Andrew because of your salary cap so you can only have one of them [which is unfair]. I can see why they invented the rule, it's pretty obvious, but in this case it was rather unfair.
Also with basketball, when i was a youngster i used to watch the Newcastle Falcons and my fave player was Derek Rucker... until Townsville i think bought him. You just get the feeling that you are cheering for the jumpers as opposed to the actual team members.

but if they did that, what would little 'ol territorians do? we have some incredibly talented players up here, and if they stuck to just having players from those areas we would be screwed.

Hmm yeah that's a good point.
Well i guess they should just not apply the salary cap rule for any players who are from that teams area originally perhaps?

My only bitch about the afl was that when it was first incorporated they should have been truly national from the start (ie maybe only a couple of teams from victoria) and left the old VFL intact...like the WAFL for instance... ;D And as for John Elliot and co, unfortunately in this world, the colour of your money is what counts. Just ask our little working class lad, ol' Eddie "I'll always be a broadie boy" Macguire.
