i think strategy is the most beautiful song, but you can kinda understand why Paul wouldnt want to play it live. Like, I don't know whether people will agree with me but when you hear him sing it on the album you can tell it really is a personal song and means a lot to him. If he was going to sing it live it would probably drain a lot out of him. Besides, just cos hes written a song doesnt mean he has to play it live.

I think it is because he has unresolved issues with accordians myself... ;D

I never realised it was so personal to Paul. I fell in love with that song and it reamians to be my favourite on all the albums. (Hense my quoting from the lyrics in my profile.) To me the song is sad, but then, it also tells me that there are people out there who may not understand you, or what your are doing with your life, and no mater how hard you try - you just can't please them all so it's important to do what you feel is right and true for your own soul.

believe that and you may believe pigs also fly! Like any artist he is influenced by people around him whether this is conscious or not is another matter. I like your assessment of the song fish-slapper! 8) If it is about the father/son relationship and taking direction of your life despite the best advices, then maybe paul is a case in point that if you are truly passionate about something, you will be successful despite everything and especially against the knockers and disbelievers...

I don't think it sounds like the kind of relationship you have with a parent or a sibling - more like a gf bf kinda thing. Also, i think Paul wrote Telescope about his dad, but he stills plays that live? That would suggest to me he has strong feelings of perhaps hate for this person [he wrote the song about]. And also, i thought Paul didn't write songs about real people or people he knows? But this one must be if he says it's too personal

For those who didn't see the singularity tour at the Zoo in Brisbane on the Sunday Night, Paul actually sung strategy, but the crowd had to sing half the words because he had forgetten them!
He got back with the "I remembered! Didn't I? Didn't I!!"
Paul said that it was the first time he has played it in a while. He seemed pretty reluctant to play it too.
Thats my 2 cents....

Ok, I'm well aware this is a matter of time after the last post, haha but yeah I just wanted to know what people thought. I'm all open to interpretations and all, and I've partially considered the song, but not heaps, but it just struck me as the song being about someone whose life isn't together, and yet they justify happiness and fulfillment within it. It also sounds like the person talking to them, explaining why they see something wrong (in this case, obviously Paul singing), shows them their life is bland and he seems to convey how they're trying to not show that. "You eat, you sleep and you breathe, and you tick off your life of personal needs." It also sounds like they try to hide behind all of it, concealing their problems to their friends, or whoever asks them...as it literally says "What's wrong? Nothing, nothing". I could be wrong, but I'd love to know what you all think. Also, regarding what was previously said, I didn't realise he had problems with playing it live because it was that personal, but also I thought that he'd have had more problems with playing Captain (Million Miles An Hour) live despite how amazing it is, because of the fact that it's about escaping a harsh reality to an extent, but oh well.

I think alot of people get caught up in believing this song is about a relationship with another person, it could very easily be a personal observation by someone suffering depression.
