At the risk of being nominated for the Stupidest Question of the Year Award, were you at the Grosvenor gig last night? I was and I liked very much Paul was in top form. Sorry for the shout out, I just remembered you are in Perth hehe. I'm guessing you went to the Freo gig too? ~C

Give us some details!! New songs? B-sides? How long did he play for? Any sign of the cold/voice strain that always seems to hit the man on solo tours? Good sized crowd (i take that it wasn't just you and dirtgirl, otherwise there would be no need for this thread...)

Hi Cayte, ;D Yes I did attend the Grosvenor show, I managed to get pole position on the railings (I was standing left of Paul next the speaker, ~ 1.5 metre's away from him) and I was wearing pale blue jeans, black tee and pigtails! Didn't make it to the freo show unfortunately as I just about killed myself doing some renovations on my house on Sunday- oh well you get that on the big jobs... The concert was absolutely fantastic! ;D From the first support band (what was their name again?), a bit disorganised, but the lead singer who looked a lot like Jeff Buckley, had a fantastic voice...I'm sure we'll be seeing more of them! Grant Lee Phillips was effervescent! An awesome performer and great showman (cope THAT Maynard!!! ). I personally really enjoyed his set, it was a great lead in and really complimented Paul’s. (Tip: people come early and see this!! ) And for Paul, apart from a couple of minor technical mishaps (keep Clint away from the mixing stand, dammit!! ), he performed beautifully! Performance wise he has really come into his own (well my opinion from when I last saw him last August at the fly by night, freo) and his ability to handle drunken hecklers has only been enhanced not diminished! 8) For those yet to see the main man, close your eyes and block your ears, but for the rest of youse (sp-hehehe), he started off with stunt show and mainly danced his way through a couple of sterling b-sides (Scientology and Chapel Street were both excellent! ;D). <br> PD also managed a couple of songs from both Beautiful Sharks and Echolalia. Monsters I thought was a bit subdued - probably reflected the stunned awed vibe from the conservative mob standing aloft!. <br> He also played a couple of newbies, which were both clearly works in progress but were fine just the same. Mystery song #1 was my personal favourite, a really beautiful lullaby to... , (*chortle* ;D), the other draft was a sequel to anchorman (lyrically I thought this one needed a bit of a Ross Kelly job (whiteboard, anyone?), but that's just me!! ) He finished his encore with Pinstripe (well he had to sing that one - he was a risk of being lynched if he didn't!! ;D). Overall, just bloody marvellous! PS (wo)man of the match award definitely went to Steph for her hilarious rendition of a fussing stage mom (left wings) ;D PPS The place was packed out, so if you’re planning to pick up door sales I'd go early!

ahhh cool that you remembered all the details so well. About 10 mins after I leave a gig, all details become one big blur hehe. I can't remember what the first band were called, name started with an S though. I think. I don't remember seeing you, we were kinda in the middle, behind the blonde who passed out and collapsed at one point. Hmmmm hehe Grant Lee Phillips was amazing, I'll be heading out soon to pick up the stuff he did with his old band. Anyway, glad you enjoyed yourself

I remember all the ugly details because I was stone cold sober, by virtue of having to be mum's taxi! I missed the mid crowd entertainment - was that the tall blonde chick who was wearing pearls? What was the freo show like?

The support band was Still. I just went to the Freo show, which was fantastic. It had a really awesome vibe, everyone was just sitting down and very relaxed, which made for a great show. The setlist was: Astronaut Scientology Stunt Show Moving Right Along Paintbrushes Say Something Back To You Beautiful Sharks Born Yesterday You Only Hide Seasick Feeding the Birds White Whatever You Want Monsters Encore: Belief = Function Pinstripe Truly I really liked the new song, it sounded great. After much heckling from a few of us, he played Belief=Function, yay. And it didn't seem like he was going to play Truly, one girl was calling out for Captain at the end and I thought for a minute he'd play that instead. But no, he played it. ;D And I went home extremely happy.

for my 25th birthday I'm actually seeing Dempsey at ANU on the 24th of May - I'm really pleased about the indication of what he could possibly play based on your set list Di.................the only problem is he doesn't get on stage until 10.45pm. I'm going to already be fucked off my head then and I worry about my ability to last the entire set. I might just lie down on a foldback speaker or something..........

You'll have to stick to red bulls then, won't you? Save the scotch shooters for after the show.

Hi Cayte, ;D but the lead singer who looked a lot like Jeff Buckley, had a fantastic voice... Grant Phillips does NOT look like Jeff Buckley, I liked his stuff but no way is he even comparable to Jeff ...... I went to both Perth shows and I thought that the Freo one was better to witness Paul sing Truly is really something. He owns that song I don't think that anyone else can do it better.

What's with people collapsing at SFK gigs? Someone collapsed at the one I got in bootleg MP3. the one on Paul's birthday.

I think it's people collapsing from the shear utter excitment of such a tall man waving his axe at them! (hehehehe) and :tool: I was refering to the guy from Still... You're right, Grant looks nothing like Jeff Buckley!

Collapsing Girl was tall and blonde, not sure about the pearls though since we were behind her hehe I didn't make it to Freo, budget wouldn't stretch to both shows. I thought you might have, that's why I asked ;D

I did have tickets to both shows, but unfortunately on Sunday I had a bit of a renovating disaster to deal with...it was a slightly higher priority to deal with.

Speaking of renovations, I had a very nice enema over the weekend.
Must remember to replace the Garden Hose.
