for what instrument you play, whether it be guitar, bass, drums, jack in the box or whatever, are there any specific songs/ bands that influence you in that division? since i play drums im gonna list some of the songs i feel are a real interesting influence/ enjoyable to play etc something for kate: dean martin (i believe in the recorded version clints drumming is quite intense, but also is good with the recent gigs, the very metallic sound it produces), captain, whatever you want, ordinary world (clints solo towards the end is very credible) augie march: brundiniusm, addle brains, the offer, owens lament & the hole in your roof tool: schism, parabol (beautiful metallic sound!), parabola, radiohead: karma police, paranoid android, airbag (beautiful) i'll stop there for now

i'm not really influenced by anyone as such, i just figured i'd like to be able to play an instrument too. so i went out and bought a guitar. hopefully i learn how to play it. of course i'd love to be able to play it like dempsey, but let's be realistic for a minute. so yeah, if there is an "influence" as such, it'd be dempsey, but yeah, i'm not really influenced by anyone i think. i got it because i want to be creative, and you know, good at something. whatever.

Dempsey, but like Mel said, I have to be realistic. I'm not him, don't have as much experience as him, and haven't been playing it from the moment I could crawl. But he has been an inspiration to me to want to learn how to play it well and one day... well, who knows....

ditto to mel, ditto to mark i had been playing intruments (piano and trumpet) from when i was little but stopped when school finished. this means i didn't do any music for about 1.5 years and i missed it, so i decided to take up the guitar and yes, doesn't everyone want to play like paul? hehe

for drumming: I started off with travis, but i gone off blink182 just for the fact that they are crap.. hehe.. I'm more into silverchair, bit of system of a down, the SfK drummer has a good thing goin, but most of the time i just hear a song i like, and play that.. Guitar: Silverchair heaps, i can play greatest view perfectly, although its pretty easy, tommorow isnt quiet as simple.. I'm tryin to get in a bit of SfK but i have only been playin guitar for like 3 months (teaching myself) and well im getting pretty good at it, i just pick it up now and then.. it helps being able to play violin to. Violin: no influences..

I've been playing guitar for about 5 years. I think Mr. Dempsey has influenced my songwriting and playing the most. Other major influences include Fugazi, Peter buck from R.E.M., Thurston Moore, Billy Corgan, The Birthday Party, The Cure, and some of the early British punk/goth bands ie. Joy Division.

There is a bloke out there called Al Di Meola..hes an exceptionally good guitarist..plays alot of jazz but is one of the best classical guitarists of all time. He does a song called 'Mediterrainian sundance' with a guy called Paco Delucia...if you havent heard it you should get it....i promise itll blow your mind... its better than satriani or even hendrix and clapton put to gether in my book...but its all different.
btw i totally agree that the song(s) Parabol and Parabola by Tool are amazing. its great how they blend into one song...itd have to be some kind of mecca for tool fans.

For bass, I'd like to think that Paul McCartney is an influence. Or Roger Waters.
As for guitar, I'd also like to think that I'm a bit of a Dempsey or Johnny Greenwood, though I am strecthing a bit there. In my younger days I 'spose I tried to be a bit of a Whit (from Spiderbait) for some reason.

I started playing guitar in Year 7/8 and I would have to say that at that time I wanted to be Alanis Morissette and Jewel. I constantly played Jewel and sang along until I could play something more complex than G C D Em.
My influences have changed though. For the life of me, I can't play many SFK songs - either I am really lazy or some of them are actually a bit confusing. SFK haven't really influenced my guitar playing much, or even the songs that I *try* to write.
I also liked Blink 182 and played those songs for ages. Three power chords always! No variation...

Vocals: Definately Mike Patton and Michael Stipe, no one else has a decent enough range to aspire to, unless you go women.
Bass: Matt Sharp from Weezer, D'arcy Wretzky Brown from Smashing Pumpkins(maybe it should be Billy he wrote the music anyway and played it on Siamese) Sting(What can I say the police are a good starting point)
The Guitarists that make me want to learn are Lindsay Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac and Scott Lucas from Local H. (I've been deterred from Dempsey by the big hands factor)
When I played Drums it was always Jimmy Chamberlain, I still profess to any drummer if you want to be kick ass steer clear of modern and begin with Jazz. I loved to beat out Silverfuck.

haha yeah
i'd like to think i'm sort of a matthew bellamy with equal parts of paul dempsey and mark tremonti thrown in.
sure.
i find creed's my own prison album most influential. ofcourse seeing as creed are popular and christian i have trouble for some reason convincing people to LISTEN TO THE ACTUAL MUSIC.
but anyway.
