i think we all know the answer, but i must bring this thread down to very very shallow level with the question:
who do you want to see on stage, julian or steph?

I think I may have seen Toby playing in Alex Lloyd's "All porky extravaganza".
Which has nothing to do with this thread at all.

We are all aware of that. You don't need to remind us. Wow, a bass slide here, a bass slide there and suddenly she's a genius. And, for your information, she does play root notes most of the time. The fill in the chorus of monsters sounds exactly like the fill in Jerry stand up. Mmm..smell the creativity. We have a word for this in the bass players league. 'Shit'. Oh sorry, i forgot you were a musical genius and your opinion must reside over everyone elses. Yes she's not playing six hundred miles an hour wanking over her bass, she must be shit. And no she does not play root notes most of the time - do you have ears? Just because she plays something simple it doesn't mean it's not good. Kurt Cobain is a renowned song writer yet my cat could play his songs. It doesn't mean he sucked. Since your so smart why don't you tab out those two bits that you believe are the same. You will either find you are wrong or that you can't tab for shit. "Julian was a much more interesting bass player. Listen to the break downs in prick and anarchitect. Not to mention the basslines from intermission, etc. " Yeah exactly ... YAWN. WORST BASS SOUNDS EVER. One of the more important things is a good bass sound, and no matter what he plays whether good or boring i can't ignore the fact it sounds like crap.

I could be very wrong...but didn't Paul write all the music in the early days? Including the bass?

I dunno. In regards to bass sound: Steph's sucks. Her ernie ball is too honky and her jazz never has enough bounce. She doesn't know how to use a pick up blender or other tonal controls. Her bass figures are always disinteresting and similar to the last. She doesn't play root notes all the time? That's her only redeeming feature. She keeps good time and balance, and keeps her drum accents to when needed. She let's the guitar take centre stage. It's a pity that when she decides to go out on a limb with a bass run, they're shit. She has no creativity. On the other hand, Julian had superb tonal control. He had the overdrive set superbly for a nice balance between a wet/dry noise, and when he coupled it with the compressor it flattened it out and gave it a much tighter sound. His bass figures had diversity and weree much similar to guitar lines than bass in their structure. Similar to Steph, he also keeps good rythym and knows when to accent and when not to. Steph throws' a box pattern here, a hammer on there and you guys seem to think that's oh-so-difficult.
So, yes Julian thoroughly creams the crap out of her.
Furthermore, I'd like to see your cat play some of Cobain's solos. He wrote some fairly complex ones, and I dare say even you couldn't play them with all your holiness. But, the point is, Cobain's songs were good. Steph's contribution to SFK (bar electricity) has been very mundane. Also, if you're going to rat on Krist Novaselic, don't even bother. Listen to Lovebuzz, arse.
