this is gonna sound like i'm an obnoxious pig but oh well... people always say that paul has big hands and can therefore stretch over many a fret on the guitar... i was just wondering if people could give me specific examples (ie - put the chord in your reply) as to these notoriously difficult 'paul chords', cos i haven't found any as of yet... feel free to give me shit too haha

Captain? I dunno, I only play the watered down ones, having average hands and all.

I dont think that they are impossible chords its just that they are out of the standard moulds and shapes so most people find them difficult to play, especially when playing along to the song cause the chord changes take longer to get the fingering right.

oh, i found this one chord the other day, forgotton what it is, but it is like, bar on first fret, skip second fret, finger on e 3rd, a 4th, b 6th and d 7th while having your left foot in your right ear and rotating anti - clockwise!.......well, maybe not quite that bad....

He plays Captain with his hands stretched over 5 frets for most of the song, and he doesn't use a capo for Whatever you Want (us mortals use a capo on fret 4).
Pretty impossible for a lot of people.

It doesn't seem to be the chords that are impossible, just changing between some of them! heh

Well, vorgan saying that his chords were 'impossible' may have been a touch of the ol' over exaggeration.

he actually doesn't stretch his hands over 5 frets through all of captain...he only strectches them three frets (i dunno why that article said that, i think it must have been a stuff up)....and yes he does use a capo when playing whatever you want...he didn't have one on his guitar in the film clip, but everytime i have seen him play it live he has had a capo on his guitar for it....i think some of the toughest chords taht he plays are either in pinstripe, prick or glass timing...and not necessarily for the stetch (altough there is quite a big stretch in some), but they are alterations and they take a while to get used too....i dunno...thats what i think anyways...

he does stretch over 5 in captain in the chorus when he adds on the 13th on the D:
e---------------------------------------- b---------------------------------------- G--------------------------------------- D----7------9-----13------6----------------- A----9------11----11------7------------------ E----7------9------9-------5----------------
counting the 9th fret it is 5 fret stretch, which really is quite a basic chord to play. What we worked out for the post chorus in belief=function is more a killer, changing between the chords is hard:
e--0-----0-----0----0----|-(finish on)--- b--9-----10----8----5----|---0------- G--9-----9-----9----7----|---0------ D--11----12--10---7----|------------ A--7-----x-----x-----5----|--------- E--0-----10----8----7----|----------
not only are you stretching over 5 frets you are also having to work your hand in entirely different shapes. haaaaard. Official fiction though is a lot less impressive than what he did in his previous days, i think the only decent progression on that album is the verse of best weapon, thats rockin.

Official fiction though is a lot less impressive than what he did in his previous days, i think the only decent progression on that album is the verse of best weapon, thats rockin. stretching your hand over 5 frets is nothing ! Not when the chord is at the 9th fret. It takes some time to get use to it if you do it around the 5th fret and lower but the higher you go the closer the frets are. If you try to play The Corrs' "What can I do" www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/c/corrs/what_can_i_do_tab.htm you'll find that it's slightly more difficult as jim stretches over 5 frets at the fifth one. Actually if you can manage to play this song your hand will be able to do anything. All you need to do is practice it for a whole day until your hand gets used to it.
