Hi guys. I've been learning to play guitar and started with the Astronaut. I got the tab done by Ben Harries from katy's site.
I can't work out when you play the middle bit of tab Ben has provided. it is:
e|-9--7--------------| B|--------7---9---5--| G|-------------------| D|-------------------| A|-------------------| E|-------------------|
When do you play this bit? Can anyone write it with the notes above the lyrics so i can listen for it in the song please?

That bit is played over the verse (first one only, from memory) and it sounds kinda like harmonics. Might even be an octave up. Just listen closely, the F# and G# on the B string have a shorter duration than the other notes.

What do you play when Paul says
"Yeah I'll blow you out of the sky, if you won't get yourself down here"?
It doesn't sound like the verse riff and it doesn't sound like the chorus (which is only those two notes the the 1st abd 2nd strings).
The tab i put above is the thing that sounds like a harmonica or a voice organ right? To give the song that night time feel about it? (That's what the sounds conjour up in my mind anyway)

play these chords
C G Am Dm (or variant something like that)
[C] yeah i'll [G] blow you outta [Am] the sky [Dm] if you wont....
and then when he goes "get your self down here..."
e|---------------------------- B|---3-----2----------------- G|---2-----2----------------- D|---0-----0---------------- A|---0-----0------------------ E|---2-----2-----------------
works for me, the Dm chord is a bit wrong but its definitely D something

D major, not minor. Or it might be B minor. I dunno.
And as for that other bit, maybe I wasn't being clear. the verse riff is the
d-------2/4\2--------- a---2------------------ e-0--0----------------
etc etc, but that little part in the tab is played very softly during the first verse, almost as a backing part. Remember, Ben has only tabbed out the riffs for the intro/verse, not the entire song. The timing is a bit odd, but if you play the notes, you can definitely hear it. Like I said, the 1st, 2nd and 5th notes are allowed to ring, but the 3rd and 4th aren't.
Edit: That first note you hear is definitely an E (12th fret on the high E string), rung out for the entire measure, then C# B F# G# E (octave below the first E). It's more prominent in the LATW 1999 version.

i don't have my guitar with me, but i'm pretty sure that D minor/major/ B minor chord your looking for is a B7:
e- 2 B- 0 G- 2 D- 1 A- 2 E-(2)
like the one in Asleep at the wheel, just without the capo.

I normally do the
e|---------------------------- B|---3-----2----------------- G|---2-----2----------------- D|---0-----0---------------- A|---0-----0------------------ E|---2-----2-----------------
that Troy Dann said, but I'll give the B7 a go next time.

No, your right with that last post, i had the wrong key in my head, and no guitar to try it on. I played it when i got home, and yeah, the D with a B root is right. Still a B7, just a B minor 7....

I fucked up that chord. It's meant to be 2nd fret on the A string, not E. And that's one of the chords used in 'Fake Plastic Trees' by Radiohead, if I recall.
