Well guys, I'll be getting my Jim Dyson Tone Deluxe Standard in a few months time ;D
Went down to Torquay with a few friends and spoke with Jim for a few hours. I arrived 30 minutes early, and Jim was actually out surfing So we went down to get some morning grub while we waited. I know it was early, but we enjoyed the best hamburgers on the planet. Ever.
Anyway, we spoke for a good 2 hours or so, completely mesmerised by the awesome tone his own T.D. Standard had. I was using it through a wireless lead as well, and that was bloody awesome, too! Mine will look pretty much like Jim's own, except for the headstock (See the above image - I've pulled the Junior headstock and thrown it on). Pearly white pickguard. Cherry Red top in Vic Ash, and black sides/back.
Also, in future, if I remember him correctly saying, Jim said that all his future guitars will come with the Junior headstock as standard. He got a good laugh when I said the stock heads on the TV/STDs looked like a hockey stick . And Aemon was definately right, he DOES have a cool selection of vintage amps (all Goldentone). I was playing his Std through the smallest one there (7 watts), and I was completely shocked at how great it sounded. Truly amazing. The most cleanest, fattest, sparkling clean tone I have ever heard to come from single coils. Even distorted, the guitar held up fantastically. Everything about the guitar felt just right. The action was perfect, the neck was bloody brilliant. We pumped it right up, little to no feedback at all (depending on which position you had the pickup selector on of course). The night before, Jim said he was having a bonfire in his back yard, and he had the amp sitting on the verandah while he was down below playing. To live in such a place and to be able to do, doing what you love for a living - bloody awesome.
Also managed to find out a bit about Dempsey's guitars. Originally, Paul had a Standard, but traded it in for the TV. There's also a little story behind that TV. It was actually sitting inside a guitar shop coloured baby blue, and according to Jim, at some stage, some arsehole customer went through the entire (or most) of the guitar collection, and keyed/scratched the backs of the guitars. So Jim sanded it down, fixed it, and Paul asked for it in black, trading it in for the Standard. Paul had kept it in near mint condition.
A word of warning to the wise. Jim will be going for a holiday around late August to early September (didn't give me an exact date), and he pretty much pointed out that I'll be getting my guitar just before then. He is indeed struggling to keep up with demand, and I'd advise anyone considering buying one of his guitars to go and order one asap, as he might not be making them much longer for this cheap - this has something to do with him working for his daughter Mia or something, I can't remember exactly. He said he'd still be making guitars, but they would cost a bit more, obviously and the fact that he'd have less time to do them in.
And that's pretty a wrap up of what happened (If I remember anything else I'll be sure to post it).

BTW Aemon, how's your headstock dude?
