Okay, here I am... as some of you may know, I went to London to see Paul Dempsey play three nights in a row (and also Eskimo Joe the first night)
This was Paul's first show in London. It was not actually his show, but Eskimo Joe's. Paul opened for them in a quite packed Sheperds Bush Empire which is a very nice venue. Paul himself acknowledged that.
He was onstage for approximately 45 minutes which is quite good for an opening act I must say. For me, the longer the better ;D
Even if he was not headlining the show, lots of people actually knew about him... the audience being almost all expat Aussies may have helped in this matter. But anyways, he was very happy to be there and talked a lot in-between songs, introducing us what the songs were about. He did explain that Ramona Was A Waitress was inspired by Alan Turing, a British bloke related to artificial intelligence and modern computer who later committed suicide by injecting an apple with cyanide and taking a bite of it... which some believe is the reason behind the logo of Apple company. Although after researching on wikipedia, that would be just a coincidence as the guys from Apple denied that fact.... Anyways, enough about that... You'll hear it yourself if you listen to the bootleg.
He also played a new song for the very first time that night that he said was called Survival Expert after someone in the audience asked him. I didn't want to release this song as part of the bootleg because of what PD said someday about demo songs... but it has been released as a video on YouTube, so there's no point in keeping it to myself.
The sound of the bootleg is alright. For that gig, I had a ticket for the first level, so I went on the right-hand side balcony as close as possible to the scene which resulted in being next to the speaker. By doing so, my right mic had way more input than my left mic... so I had to mix both channels in the post-processing to make the sound better... Anyways, I guess I should cut the geeky taper crap and let you know about the setlist and the link to download the said-bootleg.
The setlist goes like this:
01. intro
02. Have You Fallen Out Of Love?
03. Fast Friends
04. Bats
05. Ramona Was A Waitress
06. Out The Airlock
07. Déjà Vu
08. Theme From Nice Guy
09. Survival Expert
10. Safety In Numbness
This bootleg is available here: www.mediafire.com/file/2ymdmqznzmn/PD - Live at Sheperds Bush Empire in London (17.05.10).zip
Dumbly enough, I forgot to take my camera during that night... so I didn't take any pictures or videos... Too bad, I could have easily tape the whole gig from the balcony... so yeah, the WinZip file only contains the audio bootleg. I believe you can find the video for each song on youtube. The videos I saw were pretty good. I'll most likely donwload them and apply the sound from my bootleg to them.
well, then... take care
