What do people think about lil John Howards' plans to send Australia to war in Iraq (especially as part of a unilateral colalition (sp) with the 'great satan', USA), without the full unconditional support of the rest of parliment? And the UN? Surely this is unconstitional (sp)? If not immoral! I can't think of many Australian's who support this impending slaughter of innocents... And isn't it a great double standard in respect to North Korea? And those guys have capabilities to develop nuclear bombs which could actually hit Australia! What the hell is going on here?! I think we are back to being 5 minutes to midnight...

Yeah it's scary hey. My grandfather was killed by war and as such I never knew him. I have no desire to follow the same fate.
Do they have conscription in the states? I was reading the other day that there's talk of bringing it back there. I hope Howard doesn't follow and bring it back here too, cause if he does well... Canada sounds nice. I might just go for an extended visit.

Well both the USA and Britain have already called up their reservists so anything is possible. The reality of this whole thing turning into WW3 is to scary to contemplate. If they bring in conscription here just about everybody who visits this forum would be eligible. Time to be joining the peace protests methinks.

i remember in the thin red line, a quote worth mentioning:
"war turns men into dogs. it tortures the soul"
there is no justification for what bush is doing. if he has so much power to commence war, surely he could easily end this peacefully. where is the terrorist links to iraq? there is no proof that iraq is related to terrorism, he's just ousting out the man his father couldnt!
secondly. john howard is someone worthy of griping about. where is the proof for the australians that we shall be subjected to terrorism? hello, weren't we told before new years eve we'd be attacked? so unless i've been hiding in a cave I havent seen any attacks.
its more than likely propaganda so he can win another term in office - but at what cost? how many australian men and women have to die before howard will finally see what he is doing?
how many men and women will have to die before america comes its senses? will it even come to its senses?

FUCK NO! i would rather go to prison than fight another idiots war in a land i would hate to set foot on.

lets everybody join me in a great big "BOOOOOO!!!"
if conscription came in, we'd all have to remember two lovely words "conscientious objection". leastways i think that's the term! ?
and the u.s probably doesn't need conscription. after sept11 they apparently had heaps of people joining the army...
anyway, war sucks. war is dumb.
i do'nt understand the rationale behind dubya wanting to go to war.
also they want to declare war on iraq because they (supposedly) have weapons of mass destruction. if it were really about getting rid of saddam, then shouldn't they declare war on them knowing that they they don't have WMD and hence can't nuke them in revenge?
shrug.

To hell with prison Deane. If conscription comes in, I'm joining Narelle in Canada. ;D
Defending yourself in your own country if it's invaded is one thing, but actively going to another country and being ordered to kill someone with whom who you no quarrel? Fuck that!

I agree Mark! I would be willing to fight on OUR soil if WE were attacked - I would be where I belong. But fighting someone eles war in someone elses land is wrong.

I kinda think that Dubya wants a war pretty bad because it would stimulate the US economy greatly which is what he needs. So there is no doubt that war will break out between the US and Saddam, though i wouldn't worry about conscription unless things were totally going to hell. Technology now means we can blow the crap out of people from miles away so you don't need lots of lemmings in the front line to run up and get shot. Nevertheless the more people who totally oppose any kind of war the better, apart from it being just plain wrong, war just means that we will have more enemies in the future (i mean North Korea could so easily kick our asses if they wanted, why are we giving them a reason).

See, if Al Gore was elected (like he should of been) we most likely would not be in this mess... Bush is out of government soon lets hope.
And seriously, Fuck War. Peace will never come about in our lifetime with the way that society reacts. No one wants to forgive or forget, revenge and anger is fuelling everyone and innocent people are caught in the cross fire.
I hate this bloody mess and what it does to everyone.

Al Gore was no good either. He wanted to blame crime on cinema.

basically, war should be summed up by the midnight oil line "put down that weapon. or we'll all be gone"
its really funny how i base my life on lines from songs,
when i heard smells like teen spirit "with the lights out, its less dangerous" i had my lights disconected.
and i'm still waiting to meet something for kate at an intersection at the middle of nowhere
