hmm quite a tradgety ........my area was hit quite bad last year.......but the number of homes lost was quite small compared to what has happened in canberra over the last few days!
There were very few firefighters there.......I hope this wasnt a case of mismanagment! Its sad to hear now that 4 people have lost there lives......my thoughts go out to all the people in the area

i'm not actually in Canberra at the moment but i got a call from my mum yesterday asking what i wanted out of my room. Apparently yesterday at 3 p.m. the street lights were turned on because it was pitch black. I can't comprehend what has been destroyed, my mum said that the animals that were at the RSPCA are now being held in the lion den at the zoo! It's so surreal. I think things are getting better so far but again it just depends on the winds. Our suburb was on the high alert list for possible evacuation, but today i think everyone was told to stay home unless their house was about to burn down because people need to be around to fight spot fires. We still have everything packed just in case

Youch. That place burnt down? Damn. And yes, to echo what everyone else has said, I hope everyone here's okay (Kristy, Amy, and anyone else there). I've been to Canberra a number of times and it's a really scenic place. I hope the fires end soon.

This is as bad as Ash Wednesday. My condolences to everybody affected - it's a terrible thing alright. And Kristy, I especially feel for you, I know how scary and horrible it is to have to undertake an emergency evacuation of your home (in my case evacuating because of CAT 5 cyclones).
