Depends... what style of book you like?
my favourite would be 'Matthew Flinders Cat' by Bryce Courtenay. Anything by Isobelle Carmody is also good.

I was just about to say the same thing . I read a lot, but mainly only politics so I'm not sure if that would interest you or not.

Thanks everyone. I actually don't mind politics. I also like a lot of history, that type of thing. The only thing I don't like is cheesy romance novels, who-dunnits or anything that fits in with those.

Oh, and it would also help if everyone said what each book was about so I would have a better idea if I want to read it. Also say why you like it

heh. okay.
magician: fantasy, very good plot line and associated feelings. as far as fantasy books go this one has pretty much cracked it, so if youre into worlds without electricity and guns, this is IT.
after january: nick earls writes a lot of light but deepish books involving non cheesy romance with very likable characters. this book reminds me very much of good summer days. i love the style of writing.
terry pratchett: fantasy which is also "anti-fantasy". very funny but pretty satirical, although he puts together a lot of pretty awesome sequences. pretty hard to pick up buts gets better with every book (30 odd and counting)
and thats my contribution.

If you're looking for a looooong and epic book that is a huge adventure with amazing characters, go for Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.
I've also liked The Stand by Stephen King, (not really a horror, really fantastic)
and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, mainly for how different it is.
