i usually respect other peoples opinions of music and shit but this is ridiculous. last nite was our dinner dance, its like a semi formal for grades 10,11 and 12.
i went to the DJ and asked if he'd play something for kate and he said no. i said, why? at this point i was ok with it so yeah. then i asked why and he goes i wont play it because no one would like it. and here i am, like....you gotta be kidding? he played alex lloyd's amazing, but no, something for kate isn't good enough. then i asked what about blur? no. tool? no. all he played was bloody stupid crap music but he played some goods songs like silverchair's greatest view, alex lloyd as mentioned, powderfinger, but no, something for kate is not good enough!!!
sorry but i felt like bitching....
deane.

DJ's always play shit music I was @ the Mercury once [ a big time try hard techno place ] and after the lights had gone on which means 'get the fuck out everyone' me and a few of my friends were hanging around and he put 'Hallways' on. We got really excited thinking he must have seen my sfk shirt or was a cool guy, but then we realised he did it to make everyone leave

This is an old thread but I felt like reviving it, as I couldn't leave this one alone. Deane I know exactly how you feel. We had a "disco"-dam I hate that word- at our school camp. Anyway me and about 20 of my friends were really happy and excited cause we brought in heaps of our CDs. Anyway it's sad because there's 250 people in the whole grade and only about 20 of the whole fucking lot like rock music. Anyway this whole "disco" went for about 2 and a half hours. At the biggining they would play 2 RnB songs then 1 rock, then 2 RnB then 1 rock and it went on. We were pissed off but the teachers just said that RnB is more popular. Slower it turned into 3 RnB 1 Rock, then 4 RnB 1 Rock. My mate Luke went and told the guy off so they said-"Fine we'll give you guys some stuff" They played 4 rock songs in a row and we had a mad mosh pit-small but mad. The teachers told us off numerous times but we didn't listen. After those 4 songs they played no more rock. They wouldn't listen to us and they just played RnB shit. We just sat on the tables in the caffertira(sp) having to listen to that shit until 12. Sorry, that has been pissing me off for ages. I just felt like sharing the story.

Having not been in school for a couple of years now, I'd like to know what is considered 'cool' these days? In my last few years it was stuff like Matchbox 20 and Coolio and all that crap. The charts these days are filled with throwaway r'n'b but i don't understand how Australians associate with that, since our culture is so different to America's. I have spent quite a bit of time in the US and they really are very different people.

ummm oik well this is from my schools perspective: tool....are cool system of a down are cool and the following are not: something for kate, & anything else not listed above. thats just the maqinstream way though, most of the induvidual groups have their own likes and dislikes.

I think this can be explained by the simple fact that so many teenagers are angst riddled dickheads who would prefer to sing along to lyrics affirming their misery rather than anything remotely introspective and thoughtful.
This doesn't apply to anyone who post in here of course!
F*ck, I am showing my age........

i think we should blame Paul for all this.. none of the above would happen if he'd hire a dj, tune his guitar a little lower and get kitted out with some baggy shorts and a big chain wallet.
