Yeah... fully My brother is a psychologist and he's doing placement work @ the moment. I was talking to him once about what advice psych's give people who are suicidal... and he told me about a person he was seeing who was very depressed, but mostly scared because when she was alone she felt like she had no control over her emotions and was worried she would take her own life. I thought that was pretty interesting because she obviously doesnt want to die, as she is scared of commiting suicide, but felt she sometimes couldnt control herself...... So i guess ALL suicide cant be put down to being selfish, although alot can i suppose.

we've unlocked the genome...yet to understand the key to consciouness... sanity...insanity...who really understands? So much yet to know... is suicide the worst case symptom? Chemicals/hormones gone mad or is it environmental? no back and white just infinite shades of grey... human beings=complexity to rivel the understanding of infinity of the universe: the grand unified theory of physics = the understanding of humanity? or am i just exploring metaphysical impossiblities?

uberto eco is quoted as saying "there are four types of people - the imbecile, the cretin, the genius and the mad. Normality is an equal measure of each"
though i not sure about the genius part....a unified theory of physics may not explain human kind - it still has to account for quantum particles. Does a objective reality exist independent of an observer? Does the mere observation of an object change its inherant properties?
whatever.

but given that we are composed of quantum particles...the grand unified theory of physics and how it relates to consciouness is particulary relevant!! another eco fan i see... ;D

not really, just liked the quote.... i guess i can just often see the imbecile, cretin, genius or insane side to people....
though i really should read some Eco and Saul (on pd's recomendation...) but i have a strong aversion to philosphy (for a number of reasons, including the fact its hard to spell.....)
