Thoughts? Opinions? The new album comes out here in less than a week and out of the 3 songs I've heard so far only one really clicks with me. The new stuff sounds a bit too..happy. I like my AOF to be wintery and melancholy! Still looking forward to the album though.

I have heard a bit of the new stuff through their live shows and "Night on Night" is so far the most melancholy of the lot. I had a bootleg of it solo from a while back and it was pretty gut wrenching. Must be harder writing the way he does when he is happily in love Can't wait for the album.

Yeah I heard Night on Night on the myspace a while back when it was up. Definately the best so far. Whats the story with the "happily in love" thing?

Ollie (AFAIK) is still in a long term relationship........which i would assume makes it more difficult to continue writing songs about relationship break-ups, loss etc......

No I get that. I'm just wondering how you know this and what the story is. I remember hearing somewhere he was with Peggy Frew pre second story...

From memory he and Peggy broke up some time after the Wires "tour". I have spoken to him a couple of times at gigs fairly recently and he told me about the new squeeze.

After much searching, I finally found a copy in JB Hi-Fi, thank God for JB. Anyways, im really loving it. Higlights so far are "Distance as virtue", "Mysteries", and of course "night on night"...
The content sounds alot happier, but I dont think their style or tone has significantly changed. Unlike Augie (and to a lesser extent SFK), their albums dont sound radically different. Nevertheless, they keep doing what they do best, and my first impressions with their new one is positive.

Yeah I'm really not sure what I think. It will need a few more listens, but there are definately some good moments. Also the first and last tracks are very strong, carrying on from Wires and Second Story.

After many many spins, I have to say this album has grown from 'good' to 'amazing'. My initial faviourite songs have now been dwarfed by the kinds of songs you dislike at first, but eventually they become the best of the best.
'misty as the morning' and 'territories' are the songs, absolutely brilliant in my opinion. Of course, all the others are just as great as they were when I first heard them.

Yeah. It's a good album. Only a couple of songs I'm likely to skip on a bad day.

Delirium made me listen to this band that he loved like years ago, and sent me a couple songs from Wires and Second Storeys ... which I absolutely loved at the time...
Then when I came down under, I bought their two records at JB Hi-Fi (I gotta say this store rocks!!! So many rarities). Anyways, I got to download their latest record "runaways" and I love it... I know it's wrong to download though and that I should support the band by buying the record ... but unfortunately, I can't find it here in France, so I'll buy it the next time I order CDs and DVDs in bulk from Australia.
All the songs are great on this record... and I really like "Distance as Virtue", "Misty as the morning", and "Mysteries". But as Delirium said, all the others are just as great!! Thanks for making me listen to this band mate by the way, and also Augie March... Now I wish I could go back down under to see them live...

Yay for the Mysteries tour bringing them to Perth. This makes me happy. I haven't seen them live before.
