I was just reading some of Sharky's posts at Soundczech when i came across a reply to something i had written. Since the free speech nazis have locked the thread i choose to reply here and have my say. Since 'Damo' says he likes to observe this forum i know he will read this.

So they save the songs into their directory where they keep all their millions of mp3's and everybody is happy! He gets to hear the show (complete with half finished tracks),just like CDR trading through the mail, only faster and easier right??
Well- how about this.... Mr X. also has Kazza or some other file sharing program and shares all the songs he has in his mp3 folder over Kazza, there for anyone on the planet to get hold of...
it only takes one person to have it on their computer.
Now, what happens 5 years from now when sfk and dempsey are international superstars (possible? but beside the point i guess, they are already pretty big) and there is a bunch of half baked old tracks that dempsey wasn't happy with at the time all over the place and no way of controlling their distribution...
at least CDR trading can be more closely checked.


Many moons ago i put a bunch of songs up on soundczech including white before echolalia came out, which i didn't think much of at the time...but then carlene emailed me and said that the band didn't want unreleased tracks on the net...
now i know in hindsight is was a stupid thing to do- but at that stage, no one else was hosting sfk mp3's so the band's stance wasn't known....now it is.
so katy back off rob- he didn't have anything to do with that.

Why don't we address the point that if you didn't boot it in the first place it couldn't even get onto the net in the first place. Never mind trying to make me look like the root of all evil for daring to get a community of mp3 sharers together.

I think you're preaching to the converted here Katy, but I can understand your frustration with that place. The thing that amused me about that thread over there was that a lot of them just couldn't cope with any form of criticism. Any disagreements with the official soundczech party line were treated as a personal attack.

Sure Rob, whatever miss violet says. Why don't we just distribute the bootlegs via snail mail to people who weren't at the show like you were? I guess you all here can see how their argument smacked of hypocrisy cause they sure as hell couldn't.

I think the bottom line is that there is no safe method of private distribution of music. Regardless of the distribution method be it CD-R via snail mail, or the internet, once it's outside the band's hands, it's no longer safe. Radiohead certainly found this out recently. So for certain Soundczech members to attack us IRC users when it was *them* and not us who were distributing the songs from the gig which Paul didn't want distributed is ridiculous.

And then when presented with this, how did they react?

Don't get me wrong, i didn't post that to win sides or nor did i expect anyone to take sides. It's just the complete ignorance of his post made me so mad i couldn't help but reply. It was more of a public announcement to him

Yeah well there was hope of that once but i doubt it will be ever Mainly because of Rob and Damien. The only reason it got put behind was because Robyn joined the forum. She talked to me on ICQ a few times and that was the unspoken end of the feud. I'm pretty sure she convinced Rob to message me on ICQ one night and say hi, but the conversation didn't go past a few words. Even though nothing has gone on they still treat me like 'satan'. But even though there is no reason for that i shouldn't be surprised since they didn't have any reason to attack me in the first place. The feud died again once the site and forum did because they both disappeared. So i think it's ludicrous that they are still slagging off over there amongst the 5 of them. It seems pretty petty?

I was just thinking that he will read this but won't reply because if he posts then i have his IP address, and then we would all know if he had been here slagging off under a guest name or fake ID.

i can entirely understand why katy wanted to use this forum (figuratively speaking) as a way to respond to something from soundczech, which she couldn't do as the thread was locked. (shrug)

however, i did just want to say that i hope discussion stays vaguely related to the topic of trading/irc/etc (although knowing this place... ) and not some mass soundczech bashing...
it's a waste of energy.
