well, apparantly I'll be able to clear the deck with you, but not the absent Louise.
Look forward to a frothy fire engine on Friday!
Alliteration! Crazy!

Update: Jasper won't be able to make it, as he's going to be in the inner west while we're at dinner. I'll still be there though (and that's the main thing, right?), and it will mean we have more of a selection of places to go and drink.
Like Charlie Chan's, where everybody knows your name.

The reason we've ended up at Charlie Chan's before is because there has been absolutely fucking nowhere else in the CBD that has been open (as we've generally ended up there late) that has also been on the quiet side - allowing the group to talk and for me to spout my quirky combination of left and right wing views.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know (such as the Bowlers Club of NSW in York St!!!! 1983 prices!!!)

I just spoke to Lou (loux2 for the uninitiated) on MSN, and she will also be able to make it.
That gives us 6 of life's real winners at the one table on the night.
Sure to be memorable.

I think the Bowlers Club in York St might not be a bad idea if we have some fiscally challenged participants among our numbers, plus it isn't that far from where we will be eating.
Have any of you been there before?

I'm open to the idea of bleating my lungs out to songs I secretly love.
Amy will no longer be able to make it on Friday unfortunately. But hey, we still have a healthy number of people attending.
And I am the centrepeice after all.

Okay, there’s one karaoke club on Pitt Street. It’s not far from Kings Comics and the Redeye Records store on Pitt Street. There’s also probably a few in Chinatown.
And then there’s that one at Newtown that a few of us went to before at Kieran’s farewell last year, but obviously that’s not within walking distance. Should be some open in the CBD though.

We'd be closer to Chinatown than Pitt St. I think there is more than one budget concious among us, so which one would you expect be the more moderately priced?

Hmm, this is going back a number of years, but I went with some friends to one in Chinatown once. It was on Dixon Street somewhere. It was different to the club in Newtown that some of us went to with Kieran before, in that each person paid something like $5 to $10 each and we were given a private room with a karaoke machine in it and a tv and mics all set up. There was a table in the middle of the room and lounges around it. I think there was a bar downstairs and you could bring drinks up.
It was pretty cheap I remember, but it was private room and not a public stage like at the Newtown club. Which might be a good thing I guess.
(But if that’s no good then Pitt Street is only one street away from George Street, so as long no one is wearing stilettos then it shouldn’t be too much of a hike. The first place should be cool though as long as it’s no different to what I remember it and as long as we’re all good with a private room instead of a stage.)

Do you always have to pay for karaoke? That's crap. Depends where you go. The club at Newtown didn't have a fee. You just paid for your drinks like at any pub. Whereas I guess you're paying for the hire of the room and equipment at the place on Dixon Street. I'm not sure what type the one on Pitt Street is though.
