What do you think of plastic surgery? What do you think of people who get plastic surgery just to look good/better?

I think it depends, if it was just getting one thing fixed then i think that's probably ok, but i guess some people do it for the wrong reasons and go too far. I think it depends on the person and there reasons for getting it done. But personally i can't imagine ever wanting to have it done.

i think it's great for people who are uncomfortable about how they look and who have the money. I don't think i'd ever get it done personally but i think people should be able to have it done if they choose. Especially if they have a deformity or something along those lines..and get teased etc... But i do agree with the astronaut we should all except ourselves for who we are and be proud

Well, I can hardly say that I'm against it considering the fact that I'm currently saving to have a similar operation done. I'm all for accepting who you are, but when you look in the mirror and hate what you see, I don't believe it's wrong to get something done if it means you're happy in yourself.

as with msot things, when used properly and in moderation, cosmetic surgery is a very good thing

I don't think it's totally wrong, but I think if it's just done for the sake of looking better, it's a waste. There are better things to spend your money on...let alone the pain factor.

I'm not perfect...I don't think anyone is even if people have plastic surgery like models or actors they are never entirely satisfied with themselves.
Isn't it better to have people appreciate you for who you are rather then whats on the outside.
.....what ever happened to... Don't judge a book by its cover? It's what on the inside that counts?
Its such a superficial thing to judge someone by their appearance...what is this saying about humanity....is it only looks that matter?

it's a superficial world out there. still, there is something to be said for aging gracefully.

thats what im saying. u can apply all the makeup and plastic to your body but you can never hide who truly are. and if u continue to hide yourself underneath makeup and plastic then you are merely hiding from yourself, and can never accept who you are.

Hmm, what brought the idea of this topic up? The talk of Michael Jackson? I think plastic surgery has its benefits. There was a girl in my school whose ears grew wider than normal, and she had surgery to fix it and her self-confidence improved as a result. Also I saw on tv a Pakistani woman who was beaten, burned, and left for dead by her husband. As such her face was quite disfigured. Some American doctors heard about her case and flew her to the states and through plastic surgery were able to mostly restore her appearance and give her back her dignity. Buuttt, yeah, there's some people who would want it for vanity reasons when there's nothing abnormal about them in the first place. You have to wonder if they'll ever be happy with how they look.

ur explaination of the pakistani woman is a very good example of its benefits.

heh, that was my guess too, mark. the reason for starting this topic, that is.
i think you need to define plastic surgery. personally my impression of plastic surgery is that it encompasses all types of constructive/reconstructive surgery, and things like that. eg. tiberius' pakistani woman. to me, cosmetic surgery is the elective stuff that makes your lips bigger or your skin too tight for your face.
beautiful on the inside, etc, and all that stuff...
