It is pretty "rock". It is also pretty fucking juvenile. *nod* I just can't picture Paul (Dempsey) ever doing such a thing.

I don't think it's so much what the Vines do, just more that it seems so forced. Kurt was real, but they seem sooooo fake to me.

i agree with WW ... i used to like their music - but that was before a) i knew who & what their lead singer was like - all my friends reckon he's hot shit but in my opinion he's just giving aussie music a bad reputation b) saw them live c) heard their poorass cover of miss jackson (the original is heaven compared to that crap)
someone needs to inform him that shampoo has been invented

Wait, you like the original version of Miss Jackson? I thought The Vines turned an incomprehensible ostentatious annoying crappy rap song into a nice accoustic guitar ballad. Still, to each their own I guess, I agree with you on your other points.

when i said that the original was heaven compared to their cover- i meant to add that i 'disagree' with that kind of music , in other words shit + even more shit = totally & utterly incomprehensible shit

its funny how rock bands have people change their opinion of them when they do something acoustic... nirvana, the vines, and i just saw sparta do an acoustic thing on channel v which was awesome

some of the better tracks on highly evolved are the slower paced acoustic tracks - well that's my humble opinion anyway

That's it though.

A bad name? If anything they're giving AUSTRALIAN rock a place on the world stage. People are now listening to Australian music........many of them in places outside of Australia. Sure, most of them probably only doing so because of the hype that's being created by NME, but if that hype can get Rocket Science, The Sleepy Jackson, The Cassanovas, The Pictures and Jet to break into the UK/US market, what's wrong with it?
