i don't know much about the aids/ health situation, but i did hear some nutter one day on triple j say that they were trying to promote lemon juice as a cheap contraceptive (or were thinking about it anyway) for people in third world countries, because it pretty much fries the sperm. Craig Nicholls is an absolute fucktard hey, i think he's pretty entertaining! i mean, i'm not disputing the fact that he's a complete "fucktard", but it brings a certain element of unpredictability to the gig when the lead singer starts doing involuntary sommersaults and seems to forget where he is all the time...

It raises the question of should it matter if the singer/band is a fucktard? In spite of making great music, Something For Kate from what I can gather seem to be fairly down to earth and non-fucktardish, but if they weren't, would it matter?

this argument opens a whole can of worms - do you seperate the art from the artist?
The best example I can think of would be Frank Sinatra - he is the most revered vocalist in recorded history, yet the guy was a common hood, a violent alcoholic, and a allround prick. Does anyone else (hypothetically) feel conflicted by enjoying this guys work?

Does anyone else (hypothetically) feel conflicted by enjoying this guys work? He was southern italian. So no. Re the lemon juice theory. It's actually been scientifcally proven (proper tests etc). So not only is it a great way to save the third world, it's also handy tip to keep in mind if you are on a tight budget! ;D

Why does being Southern Italian exonerate him from being a prick?

Why does being Southern Italian exonerate him from being a prick? it doesnt. but its a big mafia area down there, a fair bit of violence. he would have been a regular bloke there. and i mean no disrespect to any italians by saying that... the whole art/artist thing-kurt cobain-wang, but one of the world's most succesful musos. if they make good music, it doesnt matter how they are as people. but if they make shit music, then we are all over them likes flies. Spice girls, anyone?

uh, to change the topic, i'd like to talk about the big day out...
it was a pretty awesome day overall, and managed to squeeze in BBK, Rocet science, the music, the deftones, the vines, the living end, QOTSA, murderdolls, cog, foo fighters, and a little bit of you am i.
i'd have to say there were a few highlights:
rocket science are a band that never fail to put me in a good mood. they certainly know how to work the keyboard, particularly without sounding like a bad goth metal band.
Queens of the stone age played a very tight set, and the new drummer was definately up there... i must confess i was disappointed that they didn't play "a song for the deaf", but it was a good selection anyway. unfortunately no guest appearance from dave grohl, but we could at least see him on side stage with his aviation glasses 70's moustache.
cog were awesome, as always. it's a pity they only had 45 minutes to play, but in that 45 minutes they really managed to captivate the crowd. that's the thing about cog. its really easy to get absorbed in their music.
also, if anyone happens to have nothing better to do when the murderdolls play, and feel like a laugh, definately watch them. i can't figure out if they're taking the piss or not, but with song titles like "1976 6 6", "die my bride" and "i like to say fuck a lot", it seems like it. some of the stuff they do along the way is ridiculous... but i wouldn't want to give anymore away. throw botles at them i you can.

well...... cog were easily the best as i predicted, followed closely by QOTSA..... murderdolls were absolutely pathetic, but i didn't have to watch the vines, so i don't know who was worst band of the day

the muderdolls were at Utopia (a music store in sydney) the other day..there were many goths hanging out for 5 hours to see them... oh and did anyone else go and see Bluebottle Kiss and Sparta play? I saw them in Syd (at the Gaelic Club) on friday night, pretty good . Sparta (featuring members of At the Drive In) weren't too bad (i hadn't heard much of their stuff before) althogh the guys voice annoys me a tad
