Basically,
Who's going? What/who are you planning on seeing? Who's hot and who's not? And who thinks they will have those stoopid food voucher things?

i'd love to go, but i guess it depends on if anyone can afford to come with me. not likely. that said, any melbournians going to the BDO? we could all like, go together in SFK shirts and look like idiots since they aren't playing (why not?!).

wilco, pj harvey and queens of the stone age. If i can get a good spot for any of those three, i will be a happy happy camper. But the big day out isn't about getting a good spot to see your favourite bands - its about:
*losing your friends, finding them, arranging a meeting spot (on the slight chance you lose them again), losing them again, forgetting the meeting spot, finding some more friends (they haven't seen the people you've come with), losing them, finding your old friends again, losing yourself, finding your friends (even though you haven't lost them), looking at watch and realising the first band is about to start, losing your watch...
*skipping overseas bands (that only visit once a year) so you dont miss your brother's, sister's roomate's best friend play a solo show on the obscure indie act stage, despite the fact you could probably go see them two weeks later for $5 on a wednesday night.
*fooling drunken strangers to believe you're a member of alien ant farm, you know not the fat one, or the one with the bad haircut. but the other guy...

LMFAO
I'm not sure whether I'll be going or not?!? Maybe if I get a job before then and gather up some money. If I do go I like Heartsparks idea of going in SFK tee's. It could work if some of us Melbournites could possibly meet up.
If by any chance I do get to go. I wanna see the Foo Fighters, Sparta, Jimmy Eat World and Queens Of The Stoneage. I think that's about it. But with the possibility of clashes I probably wouldn't be able to see them all.

Pacifier deftones sparta qotsa pj harvey cog foos
luckily no clashes... cog got a pretty good timeslot, though they should be on the main stage as they are certainly the best band there.....

yeah, it's great to see cog in a good timeslot. didn't see them last year 'cos i didn't know who they were, but i they're planning on using the lanterns and stuff i can't see how it would work in the middle of the day.
i have some strange friends who think it would be funny to see murder dolls instead of pj harvey, but i guess it means a good spot for cog, maybe.
but i think QOTSA will be a real highlight, provided i can see... does anybody else have this short person syndrome, where they go and see a band, hear all this great music, but all they get to see is some 40 year old's bald patch and hairy back?

but i they're planning on using the lanterns and stuff i can't see how it would work in the middle of the day. they haven't had the lanterns the last 3 times i've seen them... they might be changing their set...... that sucks cause the lanterns were very cool. they are mainly focusing on promoting open up at the moment so they might be making something to fit that theme of things?

but i think QOTSA will be a real highlight, provided i can see... i look forward to QOTSA but have my doubts... if they let nick sing every second song i'll shoot myself, because he needs to figure out how to sing...... i hope to see mark lanegan sing a fair bit because he seems like a very good performer....... and i'd like to see josh and nick bring up a few kyuss instrumentals for old times sake, but thats just me dreaming rather than anything that resembles reality in any way

he didn't make an appearance on sunday, of course i can't be 100 percent sure cos i couldn't see them but i don't think he did.
I wrote a farkin huge review of my day the other night and then it disappeared and i got really pissed off and then i just said fuck it but oh well i'm back.
Lines to get in this year were shittier than ever, poorly setup so watchout if you wanna see any of the early bands.
First thing i saw was the Nude Karaoke on the Lillypad. Never bothered with the Lillypad in the past but this was one of the funniest things i have seen in ages. They just drag people out of the crowd and try and get em to take their clothes, and thanks to a little invention called alcohol there are plenty of people (mainly male) who are prepared to get their kit off. Only one chick went totally naked and she was greeted with "lets hear it for the shaved minge". Most of the guys were laughed at profusely as the hosts shouted at them to "get that small cock off the stage", and i think one guy got a bit of a semi.
First band for me was Augie March. Very tidy performance even though Glenn forgot the last verse to one of his songs and had to finish abruptly. Did a really great version of There is No Such Place and This Train will take no passengers.
Caught half an hour of Jebediah on the Green Stage which was a bit of a surprise cos they have played main stage in the past and so on sunday the crowd was well and truly overflowing out of the tent. They sounded awesome and played a realy good mix of songs from all three albums. In the past i have been dissapointed by how messy their sound can get but they are in fine form and Harpoon was brilliant.
Went and saw The Music who i didn't know a whole lot about apart from the couple of singles that got played on the radio. They totally rocked, but not in a masochistic way, they play rock music that you can dance to. The lead singer is an excellent performer even though you can't really understand what he's singing about, his dance moves are hella funny. At the beginning there was quite a small crowd but by the end they had dragged a few people in and had it full.
Went over to the main stage to see if the Vines had learnt how to perform live since the last time i saw them but sadly they haven't. Craig Nicholls is an absolute fucktard, it would be bearable if the others in the band were as mentally lacking as he was but they just kinda stand around and watch him make a fool out of himself. Don't bother with them, go and get a slurpy instead, it will be far more beneficial to you.
Watched a few songs from Sparta who were very tight. But i kept on thinking to myself that "i wish this was At the Drive In", they just lack something i feel. Though if noisy indy emo rock is your thing you will probably dig them.
I went and got a good position for Wilco expecting there to be a big crowd but there was hardly anyone there. Which is sad really because they were freakin excellent, i think a few more showed up but not what you would expect for a band playing at 5.00 in the arvo. They played a lot of songs from Yankee/Hotel Foxtrot and it sounded awesome, and as Jeff Tweedy put it they were deliberately adding extra layers to their music so that the sound filtering in from the hip-hop stage would melt into theirs. I didn't know much of their early stuff, except they played a couple of songs from the mermaid avenue sessions. Highlights were Heavy Metal Drummer and California Stars.

I had to make a tough decision because i really wanted to be up close for the Foos and to also see QOTSA and PJ Harvey, so i went and lined up for the D-Barricade for PJ and Foos and missed QOTSA, well i could hear em fine but not seem em. They sounded great live and i kind of regret not seeing em, but in the end i got a great position for two performances.
PJ Harvey was very raw and stripped back, no fanfare or big rock and roll show. Played mainly stuff from Stories and a few older ones like mansize and To Bring You My Love. Only downside was that i was surrounded by hardcore hippy lesbians, you obviously loved PJ in more than one way. They smelled funny and wore crappy hemp clothes which is not good if you get stuck up right close to them and you can't move. Thankfully they left Janes Addiction came on.
Not a big fan of Janes Addiction and so i don't have much to say about them except that Perry Farrel sounds like a lunatic.
Foo Fighters were freakin brilliant. So much fun and so much singing along to last a life time. It was one of those really cool performance where every song had the crowd going nuts, there was lots of pushing and crowd swaying for the first few songs but everyone got into a groove after about four songs and you could feel comfortable that no one was gonna push into you or step on your feet. The heat generated by everyone was enormous, making it hard to breath at some points, and when i came out i was completely soaked in sweat (not all of it mine). From memory they only played one song from the first album but the set was evenly spread among the last three albums. They opened with All My Life which was a great start and finished with Everlong which was perfect and along the way played Tired, Monkey Wrench, Low, The One, My Hero, Stacked Actors, Breakout, Learn To Fly, This Is A Call, Generator and Have It All. A special moment was when during one of the songs Dave went of stage and drove back on a moped and was doing his usual rock star kinda thing. Then launched into a sermon about drink driving and not getting caught otherwise there was the posibility of rape or something along those lines.
Overall while it wasn't the best BDO i have been to it was still a kick ass kinda day, in hindsight i wish i had made time to get over into the Boiler Room for a few minutes to hear some doof doof, and it would have been good to see QOTSA but ya can't have it all.
So to everyone that is going have a good day and drink shit loads of water because it is sure to be a hot day as always, ciao.
