There is a song out at the moment that sounds exactly like Nirvana... I think it's by a band called Puddle of mud? And something about someone hating someone? Anyway, it's so Nirvana-ish! Mmm, it does sound Nirvana-ish hey. My friend & I were saying that on the drive to see Blueline Medic last week. We also thought that some of The Vines' songs were Nirvana-ish in tone too.

Fucking hell I HATE Puddle of Mud, bunch of Nirvana rip offs, some fuckwit corporate music industry shithead manufactured this shit band to copy Nirvana. Their lead singer looks like Kurt and they even have a fucking janitor in their video clip for that stupid song just like how Nirvana did in their video for Smells Like Teen Spirit. I hate the crappy bands that are coming out today who have nothing original to offer but copy past successes for all the gullible kiddies who think that they are so hardcore to swallow up. It disgusts me.

wtf? I've never thought that Puddle of Mud sound like Nirvana. Stone Temple Pilots and Silverchair always had the same accusation levelled at them, and I couldn't find any weight in those either.
Anything with fast chord progressions and strained vocals can be accused of being Nirvana-esque - and these two characteristics can be found in many, many places.

I think the Vines sound Nirvana-ish. I don't think Puddle of Mudd do, but their film clip is really wanna be Nirvana.
When Silverchair started out Daniel Johns was trying to hard to be a bad mix of Kurt and Eddie Vedder. He used to try and hold his hand up like eddie did in his tomorrow clip ... was pretty gay. He seems to have finally got some style of his own now ... although he still sucks.
I don't think Silverchair sound like Nirvana, maybe their earlier stuff. I do think they sound like a lot of other more sucessful bands though, mainly because they have plagerism down to a fine art.

Nirvana's influence on music has been huge. the vines are only big at the moment because the world is looking for nirvana jr. thus, many bands will change their style to be more nirvanaish, because it will make them bigger

The Vines do resemble Nirvana's sound but Puddle Of Mud?!? I've never thought they sounded anything like Nirvana, but then again that could be due to the fact I've only heard their songs once or twice. Every band has influences and with a band like Nirvana there's always going to be the rip off bands trying to sound the same (monkey see monkey do) It's only natural to expect it. But like Dirtgirl said there'll only ever be one Nirvana. So I'm not worried .

they sound a bit nirvanaish. But they suck...... not unlike nirvana... maybe theres a good reason that all the bands that sound like nirvana are really bad...... its because they have achieved it so well

I understand what you are talking about, but everybody has their influences - the living end are influenced heavily by the stray cats, powderfinger by crowded house and split enz, and (early) silverchair by nirvana. Everyone is influenced, hell the stuff i write is heavily influenced by Dempsey, thats just the way it is, music would be nothing without influences

That's a fair point, but i don't think ALL great music created is heavily influenced by something else. It's like a heard Kurt say once, something about every 10 years or so something comes along and blows people away and changes the way they view music. Then the years after people are just recycling that until something new comes along again.
I think that's why bands like Nirvana will always be remembered, because it was so different to what was around at the time.
