Steph, there is no rush in seeing it. I was majorly disappointed. The story is corny, pretends to be deep and thoughtful when it's actually quite unintricate. I hoped the fantastical scenes would be really fantastical, but they weren't.
I wouldn't pay $11.50 to see it now.

Justin i don't think that any of these movies on Collette's list glorify drug use, so i'm not sure what you were referring to: "-Amelie -Adaptation -American Beauty -Beautiful Mind -Being John Malkovich -Bowling For Columbine -Pollock -The Pianist" ...and if it was 21 grams that you were referring to then you are wrong again ... I was just baiting Natty...........*s*

My knowledge of 19th century Japanese and American history is limited but I had my doubts as to the exact historical truth in The Last Samurai.
Having said that though, I have to disagree Soph. I thought the film was successful in being deep and thoughtful. It felt genuine to me in showing the importance of standing behind your principles and facing the consequences. At the start of the film, Cruise’s character is a drunk who hates himself and what he’s done as part of the American military. He feels like a wheel in the machine, but as the film progresses he sees that he has a chance to do what’s right and find redemption.
Cruise has definitely redeemed himself as an actor in my opinion, considering the bad films he’s been in over the last years.

I have seen this movie twice in the last 12 months on SBS. It is in Swedish but that doesn't matter, it's still a great film. It's called Fucking Åmål but they advertise it as Show Me Love. Plot Summary for Fucking Åmål (1998) thanks to www.imdb.com Åmål is a small insignificant town where nothing ever happens, where the latest trends are out of date when they get there. Young Elin has a bit of a bad reputation when it comes to guys, but the fact is that she has never done *it*. Another girl in her school, Agnes, is in love with her but is too shy to do anything about it. For different reasons, Elin ends up at Agnes' birthday party as the only guest. They have a girl's night out together but after that Elin desperately avoids Agnes, refusing to even consider her own homosexuality. If you get past the lesbian topic and check out the film as a pretty good take on teenage life in general you will really enjoy it. Of course Justin will love it for the 2 girls kissing.

Please, no one go and see the Last Samurai...it is GROSSLY innaccurate and has very little historical significance, instead go and read the story of the last Samurai...the REAL last samurai - mucho coolo. if you want accuracy, don't go see movies. the last samurai never claims to be historically accurate.

Just like Braveheart. To my knowledge, William Wallace didn’t impregnate her in reality. That historical inaccuracy doesn’t distract from the overall quality of the movie though.

I saw the last samurai today... and it was ok. A nice story about friendship ...and really beautiful scenery but that's about it.
