Saw Last Samurai Thought it would be crap but no Cruise I learn can act
Emotional film And thought provoking as well Better than you think
Thought would be a rip Of dances with wolves but no It’s quite good you see
Cruise stuck in winter Learns way of the Samurai Viewers enjoy film
It’s not what we do But how in life we do it This is what matters
Philosophy of Film elevates it over Cruise MI 2 shit
I say go see this Film as it is one of the Best films of the year

I haven't seen The Last Samurai yet, but I recently downloaded the Soundtrack and I must admit, it is definently one of Hans Zimmer's best OST's yet. It'll never match The Thin Red Line mind you, but I found it so thoroughly beautiful and amazing. I think I'll actually go out and buy it

i guess i've been seeing a few movies recently.
21 Grams - Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio Del Toro - directed by the man who directed Amores Perros, (i liked this one more) and has the same kinda mixed sequence (which can annoy some people, but it makes you think I guess) thing going on - it's about three people who's lives intertwine following one event - Naomi Watts was great - really really good I think, and no, it's not about drugs
The Last Samurai - Tom Cruise didn't do too badly..he's put out some pretty good movies recently compared to the late 80's early 90's (Days of Thunder!) - watch out for the guy who plays Katsumoto, Ken Watanabe, he's very very good
City of God - on dvd rental - this movie is set in Brazil and follows the life of two boys and all the people around them, from their childhood up until they become adults. one of the boys is the narrator and we see the movie through his eyes. - it's a beautiful looking movie and a wonderful story (i don't use wonderful much) it just feels real and you can sympathise for each character even if they are not doing the "right" thing - one of my new favourite movies ...mmm yes, go borrow this one out (I think it's rated R, sorry kiddies)

I found Tom Cruises performance in the Last Samuarai generous to his Japanese co-star, and while he was the films protaganist, there was no scene chewing, sly grin flashing Tom Cruise of old to be seen - there was a certain humility on display (from the actor as well as the character).

Collette you and i have very similar movie tastes! ;D films that glamourise drug use and feature anti-heroes that are unsympathetic losers?

might someone be kind enough to explain to me what chewing the scenery refers to?

It means to over-act, over-emote, or ham it up in a synthetic frenzy so great that you might even start biting chunks out of the set

I've seen a few movies and DVD's lately. Movies: + Big Fish: a nice story, maybe wait for DVD or TV + 21 Grams: Extremely depressing but very real. I love Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro so this was a great movie for me to watch! + Cold Mountain: a lot better than expected. A very good movie... Renee was awesome. DVD's: + The Magdalene sisters: just awesome. Very confronting but a really good movie + Kissing Jessica Stein: A cute story that is funny and worth watching if you have the chance + Walking on water: A depressing yet surprisingly funny and touching film... Vince Colossimo is in it and I just love him!

Justin i don't think that any of these movies on Collette's list glorify drug use, so i'm not sure what you were referring to: "-Amelie -Adaptation -American Beauty -Beautiful Mind -Being John Malkovich -Bowling For Columbine -Pollock -The Pianist" ...and if it was 21 grams that you were referring to then you are wrong again ...

I've seen a few movies and DVD's lately. The Magdalene sisters + Walking on water Walking on Water was really great. I saw Magdalene Sisters a while ago and I thought it was okay, it was kinda too painful to watch for me. Not sure what else to say about that one.

+ Big Fish: a nice story, maybe wait for DVD or TV I saw this last night, my friend and I were having an argument about whether this film is intended to have depth/another dimension. the scenery was good and it was beautifully shot and all that, the acting was good enough (though I am not necessarily a good judge of that). thats not the issue is it just a story about story telling, and the father/son relationship (basically a straight up and down 2dimensional story) or is there an undercurrent of symbolism and metaphor for something else/greater?

Being a big fan of Burton myself (although I don't condone planet of the apes in any way) I have yet to see the movie but my impression of it is that Burton is re-exploring the themes of Edward Scissor Hands, something extraordinary occuring within the mundane.
More thoughts once I have actually seen it.
It may be that the movie is flawed like POTA was and that is why the themes are convoluted for you.

Please, no one go and see the Last Samurai...it is GROSSLY innaccurate and has very little historical significance, instead go and read the story of the last Samurai...the REAL last samurai - mucho coolo.
I want to see this big fish, the hype is killing me! Better get a move on before it leaves the cinemas.
