la trobe will be a helluva lot closer, but melbourne is meant to be better. where are you living? and when are 1st round offers out? still plenty of chance even after that to get into melb.

1st round offers came out today in ACT/NSW and i didn't get in i am so unimpressed!!!! It seems this is the year everyone decided it would be a good idea to do social work and the uais went heaps higher and there are currently no vacancies and noone can tell me what my actual uai would be because they take 50% of my uai and 50% of my grades from 1st yr and i just wanted to have a whinge cuz i surely can't stand living in canberra for another year++ and every time i spoke to people at unsw and syd they said i should be fine to get in damnit. ok whinge over

Hey Kristy, take heart - there are many ways to skin the cat! Try for second and third round offers (people invariably don't take the first round offers). Getting in people's faces usually helps (hassle and ring up the unis's for places, camp out etc etc - I know this approach has worked for others, even when there were 'offically' no places left!). Failing that, try and do a tafe course which will give you credits towards the uni degree. (ie try again next year or try in a few years time as a mature age student. You only need to be 21 to be considered 'mature'! ). In the mean time get experience (even if it's voluntary)...everything will help you get in via the back door... if it's your true dream, whatever you do: NEVER GIVE UP! There is always a solution to any problem. Hope that helps.

True true. There's always other ways around to get what you want. In the long run, persistence is worth more.

i'm in preston, and i'd be attending the bundoora campus if i went to la trobe. if i went to melbourne, i'd be at the parkville campus. uni offers come out monday. everyone check for my name in the herald sun. (i'm famous!) and groucho, the kmart/coles etc. opens mid-march in fact. if i got a job with them í'd be starting at other stores asap til they open though.

Heartspark, I'm glad it's Melbourne cos Bendigo is a hole! First round offers just in and I got into my 3rd preference at Victoria Uni - St Albans studying Psychology, I'm fairly happy with that. But hopefully I might do better with round 2 offers.

how do offers work anyways? if i say yes to round 1, is that it, no more offers? what if i say no to round 1 since it's not what i want? what if i get nothing with round 2? can i change my mind and go back to what i got in round 1? scary!

being 15 i dont know a whole lot, but you can say no to round one, and accept round two, but if you dont get round two, thats it. anyway, pick up a copy of todays age, its all in there

Accept the first round offer, then see what else you get in the second rounds. If you get a better offer on the second round, you can decline the first round. If you don't get any offers on the second round, then at least you still have the first round offer. Win - win all round.

Well i found out why i didn't get into uni, and it wasn't cuz of my marks it was because firstly ANU stuffed up and said i did one less class then i did and because they also failed to put in my degree as cross institutional so that it showed up on the computer that i hadn't completed a full-time year! *fingers crossed* Mel what are you actually studying??
