at this point in time i would just like to point out that people working for evil multinational coca-cola will not even fuckin TOUCH diet coke. or for that matter anything that comes out of the syrup stuff at your local pub, maccas, hungry jacks/burger king etc. they just will not touch the stuff, knowing what goes into it. its either real bottled coke or nothing. the only thing in the staff fridge at coke factories are real coke, fanta, sprite, and fruitboxes/powerade etc.the amount of diet coke especially that gets destroyed every day because its quality control is such a fickle thing... oh what fun it is to watch pallets of the shit get obliterated en masse every day.
just a happy thought for everyone 'enjoying' diet coke, and maccas coke.

True caffine freaks either do nodos or cafe arabica (lavazza is best hmmmm). ;D Mind you warm full strength coke mixed with sudafed is supposed to be a good speed substitute (just ask any long haul trucky - they swear by it (ox's blood) ). That's my helpful study tip for this week (lol).

I should know better than to let a topic get to 4 pages before I read it... But I saw "Life is but a joke", thought people were saying their favourite jokes and then it would descend into unrelated conversation about Dempsey, and decided I'd wait... Meanwhile I got busily into the Britney debate...
For what it's worth, you all make good points although I have to agree with Luceluna. Every time I read something and had something to say about it, I would read it below. Top work dude.
And I did laugh when Dirtgirl asked for the Twisties...
Quick point. It's all marketing. The company finds out what people want, they make it (or as close as they can), and then they tell everyone that what they want is out there. Whether people choose to believe it, to buy it, and most importantly, to buy it a second time, is their own choice. Maccers makes fast food and it's cheap. If people want a quick meal for $5 and they're not concerned whether it's healthy, if it's real chicken, or whether the company commits alleged human rights violations, then they will go to Maccers. If these people have more concerns with what they are eating, they might be prepared to pay more.
And so if Hungry Jack's and McDonald's are identical in the eyes of John P. Consumer driving home, he will probably go to the first he sees. McDonald's therefore want to make themselves more readily available, so they open a store to make it more likely that they are the first John sees.
McDonald's are in business. I can't speak for them and I can't speak for any of you, but I imagine that they feel that making money is their main goal, with social responsibility somewhere down the list. You might put social resposibility higher. I would. But everyone is in business to make money, and as much as they can (whether they admit it or not), it's just that some would rather close or lose money than do things others mightn't approve.
I would be interested to read that book about the sewage etc., but I would look at it sceptically. I'd want to see more widespread examples, I'd want to see proof that there is first knowledge, condonement, approval, then coercement from the top level of Maccers. The problems mightn't be Maccers, but the people they employ to run the stores. And so on. But I'd still be interested to know, because I must admit that while I have babbled on (another long post, I should stop speaking my mind!), I actually don't know enough about this as I probably should.
